My Dermatologist,
Dr. med. Sabine Anders-Ankerhold, is very good, extremely nice and speaks English too. A few others from here have been to her too and were also very happy. She takes private and state-insured people.

Keydeck, the doctor you recommend looks, well, a bit concentrated on cosmetic things. Other than the skin cancer bit. Would your recommend her for eczema like problems?

I still haven't found a dermatologist I like either, thanks for the links.
There's one I'd like to warn against, though, I am not sure of her name anymore but her praxis is on Josephsplatz. I went there once and nearly walked out. Waited forever in the waiting room full of anti-cellulite posters. When I finally got in to the appointment, she had taken a call from a patient who was concerned that something was not healing correctly. She spoke in such a patronizing and rude tone to this patient, and it seemed to me she was doing it for her own amusement and so I'd see how much power she has or something. It was really weird.

I went to the place on Candidplatz - directly there as you come up from the U-Bahn. Was very impressed. That was a while back though :-(

Yes I would. Ask Badger if you want a better opinion on her. I only went to see her once myself and that was just to show off my tan.

do they work on acne
Monkeee, Good for you for taking care of yourself. Almost all cosmetic dermatologists do work on acne. I would say though before you buy anything, start with a trip to the dermatologist. You've got some good recs, I'll add mine as I've got a great one who speaks English. (Check with her staff though to see if she accepts public insurance).

Notes: very nice clinic english with speaking staff. the doctor hersef is very nice, and has great skin. The kind you see quoted in something like
Vogue. She did note that one doesn't need to spend a lot of money on good skin care products. Given my list of complaints she gave me a boat load of cleanser and moisturizer samples to try (most of which are available at the pharmacy).
The clinic offers medical and cosmetic treatments, peeling, microderbrasion, she also has an aesthetic practitioner that offers facials and i think permanent makeup and such. The aesthatecian (sp) didn't speak much English but we got by AND most of my bills were covered by private insurance.
If you're doing DIY, I'd recommend a gentle cleanser, a scrub and topical applications. Usually recommended for bad acne is sacyclic acid for the day and benzoyl peroxide for night. The easiest I know would have to be Clinique for men. They have a soap, men's scrub (it should have sacylic acid listed on the ingredients) and an oil control hydrating gel (and yes even if you break out chances are your skin is dry). Check out which products are right for you at
Clinique If your German's not so good you can print out the pictures and take it to your usually not so friendly Douglas and they can sort you out. Don't let the sales ladies put you off, their usually not so keen on the Q and A bit, i.e. I always feel like I have to know *exactly* what I want. If your German is good, you can also just translate the list of major ingredients and pick up a cheaper line. Neutrogena also makes a line called "Advanced Solutions" but I don't know if its available in Germany yet. In either case if your buying something seriously expensive, do your research before you put down cash - there are loads of forums which will help you select your products and rate these sort of things.
One thing, even if your worried about making your acne worse, don't forget to use an oil free SPF every day. Yes every damn day. The sun is harsh on skin, particularly sensitive and scarring skin. Protect it now to make it look better laters. :-)

MonkeeDude - I'm not your nanny. 1) Look at the website, 2) I wrote 'You could call and ask them'.
I have never meet a Dermatologist that cannot treat Acne... don't know what kind of experiences you have had, but I have been to alot of Dermatologists in my time, and they can all treat Acne. I have also never been forced at an office to buy the products from them, because I move around alot, I always try to get products I can purchase anywhere- like normal brands- L'oreal, Nivea, Neutrogena, and such.

For starters you need to fully clean and exfoliate your skin on a daily-basis. I use, as prescribed by my dermatologist, NEOSTRATA cleansing gel – 4% Glycolic Acid (can be purchased over the counter at most pharmacies). Like previously mentioned, wearing sunscreen is a must – however, make sure it's oil-free, so that it won’t clog your pores. I use Clinique Daily Defense for oily-normal skin (SPF 25). To speed up cellular turnaround and help fade scarring, my Dr. also recommended using at night, DERMASENCE lotion with 10% AHA. ***** Although ... A MUST HAVE and a face-saver, is Clinque’s "ON THE SPOT" pimple gel, it really speeds up healing and is invisible!
Cleansing is only one step in solving outbreaks. To get to the root of the problem, you need to access your diet. When do you have more/fewer pimples? How does your skin look after you eat milk products or sugar-rich foods?
You should also take a vitamin-a supplement; this will help to regulate your hormones.
Hi, Does anyone know of any good skin specialists (English speaking preferably) in Munich? I've got a dodgy mole that's suddenly gone all itchy and red and I need to get it looked at so any advice would be really appreciated! Cheers!

I recently saw
Dr. Tannenberg
Bülowstr. 3 (Bogenhausen by Effnerpl)
98 29 04 65
he did a complete head to toe skin analysis and removed 3 moles, and wasn't that expensive either. He also took photos of some other moles that don't need to be removed, but need to be watched.

http://dr-smith.de/I can also recommend Dr. Smith. I've seen her several times to have a few benign cysts removed and she did a great job, and takes public health insurance.
I didn't ask her, but I am sure she is British, her English is just too good and accentless to not be.

Seemed like every recommendation was booked until Monday. And I have to say that the receptionist at the one Keydeck(no offence) recommended was a complete bitch. She wouldn't even suggest another dermatologist in Munich. She gave a snippy little laugh and said "why can't you just come on Monday?" Because every frigging scrap of information dealing with changes in a mole says get it checked
immediately, that's why.
But the receptionist at Hautpraxis Dr. med. Christina Smith was very helpfull and advised me to go to the
Klinikum Schwabing Dermatology department. They were great. Friendly, professional and fast. Plus the doctor who treated me was really easy on the eyes. Very impressed by the
Klinikum Schwabing. Lovely area, very peaceful and of course the doctors were great.

I agree with Jamie about Schwabing Klinikum I went there today and saw a Dr. Hanke her English was very good and the service was fantastic. I'd also like to add that I saw an Dr. Luderschmitt or something in Residenzstr and was made towait 20 minutes then in the middle of the consultation the old man disappeared and came back another 20 minutes later. I was so pissed off I told him How I felt and he said I could go!!! So what waste of F...g time and energy, I was so upset that I cried! I couldn't help myself and people on the street just stared at me!!! So what a shit morning till I saw the doc in Schwabing.

I have been very recently to Dr Tannenberg, and would like to share my experience : i went to have my moles checked, which he did taking pictures with a special camera. I also showed him two things that sligthly disturbed me : a recurrent pimple almost under a mole on my cheek, and a small pimple / kyst under an armpit. He offered to remove both with laser right away, and i agreed. Today, there is still a redness on my cheek and under my arm.
I just discovered the bill : 324,96 euros.
Now, that may be normal, but i find it absolutely outrageous. No doubt the french health system is dying but in France i would have paid no more than 100 euros !!
I would be very interested to know how much people have paid for similar treatments.
Thanks a lot, and good luck everyone with skin doctors here !

I am looking for a dermatologist in Munich as well. One sort of close to Maxvorstadt would be nice!
I don't need one for acne or cosmetic things, but for things along the lines of eczema and psoriasis. One side of my family has a history of crazy skin problems. Up until last week, I thought I had skipped the gene!
I would really like to see an english speaking doctor, but if the best ones happen to only speak german, I'm sure I can drag my boyfriend along.
Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I was wanting to ask for advice about Dermatologists in Munich. I've had a bit of a scout through previous threads, but this didn't really answer my question. So I hope you all don't mind if I post this question again.
I'm looking for a good dermatologist in Munich. I've had a hard time finding one that I feel confident with. Yes, I realise that there are quite a few of them in Munich, but the three that I have visited seemed to rush through our appointment. One was even rude and patronising.
Before I moved to Germany from Australia I lost my mum to skin cancer. My father had also had quite a few pre-skin cancer moles cut out of his body during his life time, and I myself have already had two moles removed. So, after mum passed away I had the opportunity to sit with her oncologist (skin cancer specialist with the Peter MacCallum Institute in Melbourne) and ask as many questions as I liked. I also made an appointment with one of Australia's leading dermatologists Professor Kelly (specialises in Skin cancer) to have my moles checked before I left for Germany. Both told me that a good dermatologist should ask about your skins sun history (how often you burn each summer, how often you were sun burnt as a child, whether you've ever had blistering from sun burn, if you've ever used solarium, and if you have, how many times) and your families skin history (whether or not there is a history of skin cancer in your family). Unfortunately none of the dermatologists I've visited in Munich have done this. They all seem to great you, tell you to strip off and then zip through the mole examination within record time. I actually stopped one of them before she sent me out after a record 6 minute appointment to ask her if she was going to enquire about my own, and my family's skin history, and she said,...'No, that's a waste of time.' With my skin's sun burn history and my family's sun/skin history I need to find a dermatologist who I can trust.
All I want is a dermatologist who I can go to once or twice a year to have my moles checked, and who is aware of my skin's, and my family history. I want to dermatologist who will take the time to enquire after these things. I don't want a dermatologist who will become patronising when I tell them that I lost my mum to skin cancer - this piece of information is sad and relevant, not pathetic. I'm looking for the type of dermatologist which two Australia specialists have advised me to look for.
Has anyone reading this post visited a dermatologist in Munich which took the time to enquire after their skin's sun history and who wasn't in a rush to get through an over filled waiting room?
With thanks in advance,
Mel
