Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich

Went to the Pinakothek der Moderne yesterday, along with half of Munich. We had tried a few weeks earlier in the middle of the afternoon, but the huge 300m waiting line put us off. Happily this time, having arrived early enough on the free day, we got in without having to wait.

If you like modern art, it's certainly worth the visit. A few pieces I recognised from other museums around Munich (Haus der Kunst, Lenbachhaus), but not many, most are new to Munich or have been hiding in a dusty corner somewhere. It's divided into a graphics collection, architechture, "early" modern art, more current modern art and design. Although I personally think the building looks ugly as sin from the outside, inside it's very well lit with lots of natural light and open space.

My tip, either break down and spend the 9 Euros to see the place during the week without quite so many other gawkers about. Or go early in the morning on Sunday (free day), when there is less likelyhood of having to wait in line to get inside.

A queue? In Germany? Are you joking?
