Fabric stores

Where to buy felt and other fabrics

Hi everyone,

is there a German equivalent to the American Joann Fabrics / Minnesota Fabrics type of fabric store? I would like to buy several yards of felt -- on the internet I've only seen small remnants and entire rolls, so would rather go to a store if possible...

i did see that there is a felt store downtown, but that looks like it might be pretty specialized, I just want ordinary felt.

Thanks for any tips.

There are a couple of material shops at the top end of Schwanthalerstr near Saturn (SBahn either Hauptbahnhof or Hackerbrücke, or UBahn Theresienwiese) which sell metres of material.
I don't know how they compare to the shops you mentioned, as I have never heard of those.

The couple of shops mentioned above, one of which is supposedly a discount place but...

When I was getting some fabric for a club night banner I ended up going to Hertie at Hbf becasue they had what I wanted and it was cheaper.

Hi, Ikea has a good choice of fabrics or try Karstadt on oberpolinger. Felt you can get in a specialist shop in the Rathaus complex. Siks and other good fabrics can be bought in Radspieler (just off sendlinger strasse).
good luck

ooh yeah Hertie's department is quite large.

I felt that the selection at Ikea was rather limited though, Phil99! Each to their own, we all know how picky I am wink.gif

Sorry if this doesn't help, but I don't know any stores, so I'd first check Ebay.

But I'm an Ebay addict.

Does anyone know of a shop that sells fabric similar to the US shops Hancock or Jo-Anne's??? I want to buy several meters of fleece to make some blankets for friends for Christmas gifts. The only places I have found are the big department stores and they have limited selections.

Thanks

qwerty: You can get oilcloth in a wide range of designs at department stores like Karstadt - look in the soft furnishings section.

As for felt - there's a shop in the Dienerstrasse - that's the street that goes off Marienplatz between the Rathaus and the Ludwig Beck store. I don't remember the name of the shop, but it's on the Rathaus side of the street (actually part of the Rathaus building). From their window display, it looks like they do all kinds of felt.
