Links to MVV PDF timetables & maps - not permanent

So they can't be posted to a webforum

The MVV Bus and U-Bahn timetable is online.

That site lets you generate PDF format timetables for bus and u-bahn routes.

The PDF files it generates, however, are only temporary. You can not post them to the forum. If you try, they simply won't work!

Here's an example of what the temporary PDF links look like:

http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mvv/TTB/MVV1__00002e1e.pdf

Click it and you will get the HTTP 404 error.

They do this for good reason. Transport times and routes change. And they do so on a regular basis to. It's no use providing permalinks to information which is not permanent. Posts to this forum, however, are permanent. So if you were to post a link to a timetable, the chances are that someone would stumble across it in 2 years time. But by then the info will probably be out of date and useless to them.

Actually Editor Bob, the link worked when i clicked on it. I got the timetable for Bus 270.

I upgraded to Adobe Reader 7.0 recently because i was having problems opening pdf files with 6.o. Maybe this could be your problem.
Gen
no, the reader version isn't the problem, I've got AR 7 and the link didn't work for me.

worked for me...

and just for the record, both in IE and Firefox (with Adobe 7 Pro)

I've got Adobe acrobat pro 7...and it doesn't work for me...
Gen
my Adobe 7 is also pro. Not bringing it up in Opera or IE. We are talking about the link above in Bob's post, right?

This absolutly definitly has nothing to do with browser or pdf reader versions.

It does seem like a temporary URL to me. I got a 404 too, but since it works for some people I assume they reuse the same url for the same timetable, and if it happens to have been recently generated it will still be lying around. Or probably they dont reuse the urls at all and some people just checked it within the hour or so that it stayed in existence.
YorkshireLad6
I can't reach it anymore, I now get a 404. No surprise it's a temporary URL, but surprising that it seems to be available for some people longer than others...

I use this one almost daily.

I have it as a favorite and I type in my stop and where I am going, etc.
Works like a charm. I don't know if it gives a postable URL but I am just adding it so everyone knows about it, since we are on the topic.

I e-mailed the MVV and they confirmed that the PDF files are not permanently available. Hence shouldn't be linked to.

Below is their reply in German.

Incidently, please note that the MVV timetable is linked to from every page on TT. Both from the city guide pages and the forum pages (see middle of the blue menu bar at the top, next to the map link).

Sehr geehrter Herr Dangleberry,

What about any copyright infringement if you post a photo of their maps online?

Edit: Just got a pm from Editor Bob explaining.

Thanks for the report. Better safe than sorry.

In this case, however, I believe the maps fall under the copyright term "fair use" and we can get away with it. Besides, the MVV are not as aggressively protective of their copyright as Stadtplandíenst are known to be.
