Kentucky Derby 2005 - Horse Racing

Does anybody know a good bar to go to watch the Kentucky Derby? And it would be great if there is a place to bet nearby!

P.S. Any recommendations as to thoroughbred racing in Munich?

I was told that The Arc was going to show it and be serving Mint Juleps, but that might have just been wishful thinking on the part of the Kentuckian in question.

Re: horseracing, there was some talk of organising a day at the races on May 16th (it's a public holiday) at the race track here in Munich, but it hasn't actually got too much further than the talking stage just yet. Do you fancy coming?

I'm thinking about going on the 26th. apparently there's a G3 race. Bayerische something or another.

does The Arc do all the pre-race hype as well? Is it in English?

You should maybe post a question on The Arc thread, see if they're showing it. Or give them a ring.
I believe there's a bookies round the corner from the arc.
If there's enough of us there, we could have a sweepstake as well, I suppose.

What's a sweepstakes? I like the exotic bets myself such as exacta and trifecta?

You haven't put your nationality in your profile, but if you don't know what a sweepstake is, then you can't possibly be a Brit

It's not exotic at all, everyone picks the name of a horse out of a hat in return for a small stake (say, 10 eur or something), and you get 50 eur back for first place, 20 for second, 10 for third. No skill or judgement involved whatsoever. It's a brit thing, I guess.

American here. I like to think that I can pick the horses so I'm into getting odds.

Would love to pop down and watch the ponies.

I was pretty keen to go to the races here soon too, if anybody else is interested. It's in Dalgafing, if I'm not mistaken.
