Hi,
I'm new to Munich and wonder when/where/how/if Toytowners meet up and what happens? Where would a new ex-pat go and how would she know how to recognise the others?

This'll be interesting. Expect a mix responses along the line of "read/search the forum" and "when are you free..."
If there is one thing that TTers are good at it's socialising (I understand...)

Thanks, Yorkshire Lad! At the moment I'm free every evening and weekend when I'm not working, not been around long enough to set up a social calendar yet!

Hi Alys,
I just got back from an unofficial meet of people, who just happen to also be TT'ers. It was at a good location, interesting and very funny (conversationally). I liked it. We met up early, the aim of the meet was not to get drunk but to chat, and we departed early.
Next time we have an impromptu, I'll let you know.
Cheers, Sin

Hi Sin,
Thanks for that. It's always great to chat with people, happy to have a drink and socialise but glad getting drunk's not a prerequisite! Look forward to hearing from you.

Alys, I can confirm what Sin says (not that it needs it).
I met him for the first time last night and he was both being funny and not getting drunk

That too is Toytown.
You have probably browsed most of the meetup threads by now so have a good idea what's going on. Just come along and you'll find in no time that you've found your level and you can't remember a time when your appointments diary was empty (should that be what you want).

In the calendar you will find regular meet ups that involve drinking (TT tuesday in the pub), eating (wednesday curry night), sports (badminton, touch rugby, 5-a-side football) as well as ad-hoc get togethers.
Also make sure you read the "TT events - meetups" section, cos many of the ad-hoc events are posted in there (except the sports stuff which goes in the sport in munich section).
The board structure should make it easy to find out what is going on where. And if nothing gets your fancy, just suggest something yourself. As one TTer famously wrote "Post, and they shall come!"
Thanks for the quick and interesting replies, guys! By the way, is the Kza thing a wind up???
LOVE football (but to watch, not play!) used to play badminton but seriously out of practise, though would like to play for fun; love tennis but am a mere beginner (began lessons last year).
Like to socialise and have looked in the TT calendar from time to time before I came here, but don't really know how to get to the places mentioned. I don't like going out alone, though I feel safe here and am happy to take the SBahn to the city alone, but notorious at getting lost, so finding my way from an unfamiliar station to a pub or something could be dodgy! Live south of town, don't have a car here so would need some guidance.
HATE curry - I mean, I've never tried the stuff but the mere smell 100m away makes me feel sick, so I'll pass on that one, thanks guys! Very fussy, plain eater, but always up for a chat in a pub or something, so long as it's not too noisey or smoky.
Would love to get to know other non Brits particularly. Never met an American, only once briefly met an Aus and a Kiwi and I would really like to mix with the locals as well (language no barrier so long as it's not Bavarian dialect!)

HATE curry...
Good Lord! - I found the only other Brit in the world that doesn't like curry. My perfect partner. Now maybe
I'll have something to do on Wednesdays...
If badminton interest you, follow this link.
ThursdaysSundaysActually, we were short of hands today, thanks to the Sunny weather and the long weekend.
Most welcome...
Thanks, Yorkshire Lad! Isn't it cool when you find someone else who is NOT a typical Brit!!! But don't ask me to go for Pizza on a Wednesday night either, cos I hate cheese, too!!!
Thanks, 32D. I would love to have a go some time but I've got to get used to finding my way around first. Living south of the city I haven't ventured too far since being on my own 'cos I am notorious for getting lost! If anyone else attends and travels on the S5 that way, I would be happy to join them. Incidentally, discovered I left my badminton racket in the U.K. and loathe to buy another one! Only brought my tennis racket. I would need to practise for a while before taking on anything serious I think. My arm doesn't have so much power these days

Less of a problem...
I am from the Southwest of Munich. So, If you are keen, we can meet at a convenient point from your place before going to the games and rackets can be rented out from the clubs.
Thanks 32D, that would be great! Sundays would be best because I'm never sure what time my boss is going to let me out of the office! Do you need to wear "proper kit" or would any old shorts, tshirt and trainers do? What are the costs involved?
Meaning? You hate cheese, too???

No
But I can't sit with people who are eating curry. I can, however, sit with people who are not eating cheese.
Cool. Wonder what it is with Brits and curry anyway! I had an embarrassing time at a former workplace when we started having monthly nights out. I was always willing to participate until the day the rest of the gang decided to go for a curry! They insisted I was going, I insisted I wasn't. I struck a deal! I agreed to meet at the boss's house for a few glasses of wine, then left them before they entered the restaurant! They kept trying to drag me in "just for a drink" they said I didn't have to eat anything, but the mere thought of being anywhere near curry was enough for me (even slightly merry) to insist on going home at 9pm!
