Hi,

I am new to town and need a bit of advice as a tv-aholic.
Where is the best value place to rent English/American sit-coms and movies in Munich? I have see a couple of places listed here, but would be great to hear some opinions before I waste time and money joining the wrong place. I like to watch good films, especially English comedies and want to find a place that stocks these as well as the new blockbusters.

Thanks!

SC

The English Video Club is great, but a bit overpriced. Still, they will have almost anything you want. Next to that is 1,000,000's of images, found somewhere on this site advertising. They recently reopened it seems. Never been there, but seems to be the cats meow or the puppies nuts. Whichever makes more sense to you?

Then there is the bit torrent route. An internet P2P sharing of *stuff*. Do a search if you are into that.

For the latest offerings in TV, give BavSat a call and they will hook you up with English TV Sat!

I am a big fan of the English Video Club on Theresienstrasse. . The only problem is walking through the door the first time as it doesn't have a shop front onto the street and even now I sometimes walk right past it.
Their DVD collection is superb. Old classics Film and TV series (I never thought I'd get to watch "V" again or the English miniseries "House of Cards"), and up to date hollywood new releases and docu films that appear there before often before they hit the German cinema. The guy who runs it is a big film and especially Sci-Fi buff and I think their stock selection is great. They also stock most of the best German films as well, mostly with English subtitles (Tip-Untergang with English subtitiles is available in store and s a must see).
As for overpriced, I don't agree. Under €20 a month to basically have access to more films and TV series than you have time to watch seems more than fair to me. Before someone tipped me off I spent more than that every month in Duty Free, just keeping up with English comedy.
The only downside for me is that they still haven't got their online database and ordering up and running, but I was told they are working hard on that.
As for others, Millions of Images used to be a favourite as well, but since their move into Amerikahaus they have really gone down hill. Also if you rent more than 5 movies a month the EF+VC makes more sense and the videotheques I just find soulless and at peak times the queuing for a terminal at my local shop is unbelievable. They are also no good if you want to watch the latest series of 24 or Buffy etc...

Hi,
This English video club sounds interesting. Can you explain a little further for someone who has never heard of it though?
Is this a rental place or retail store? How does it work?
Anybody know what you need to take with you to sign up?
Cheers!

There's a list of video/DVD rental stores (Videotheken) here.

Most of them have DVDs with the English language included naturally.

Check out Cinemathek. It looks good.

Missing Image is excellent. If they don't have it, they will get it for you. This place is great.
