I have been catching some of the NBA playoffs while back in ATL and now that the weather is getting better would like to get some games going on the weekend. Looking to set up a time for tomorrow at 2pm. Seems to be some courts on the S.E. corner of Eng Garden that look good. Anyone up for a game and then head to a beer garden for some "cool down" and "stretching"? Will be in the air heading back shortly so if anyone else wants to pick up the thread and organize (even changing time or venue if need be) I would appreciate it.

By the way, everyone is welcome.

I would be interested in this... Maybe even have it on Sundays when there isn't much to do anyways? I've heard of those courts at Englischer Garten. I think there are also courts in a small park on Belgradstrasse just north of the Herzogstrasse cross section. I have a friend that would probably join us regularly too, so that makes 3 so far, enough for some kind of game!

Great. So there is now 3. A few more and we got the makings of a good game. Please don't tell me there are only 3 people on TT that like to play some hoops!

Saturday early afternoon sometime works for me, weather permitting. You up for it e-tubbs?
@NoelleNY-where is the court you have in mind located?

Sunday would be better as Saturdays are the only days I can get some shopping done... The weather's being a real bitch; my friend and I had plans to just shoot some hoops yesterday, but that obviously didn't work out!
If Saturday is overwhelmingly better for everyone else, then I'm sure I can schedule it in.

Ok...due to weather and Eriiki's shopping issues

we are going to put this together for Sunday at 2pm.
Eriiki and Noelle mentioned places to play, but I don't know where they are or if they are any good, so that input needs to be added and if it is a pain in the arse to get there. As for me...have basketball...will travel.

The court I know about in northern
Schwabing doesn't have a net in the hoop, so it's probably not the bestest of places... Dunno what the Englischer Garten place is like. I'm flexible to travel too, but it would be nice to play somewhere not too far from a place to quench our thirst.

Ah...good idea. Anyone else have some ideas as to locations?
Blitz
May 6 2005, 6:42 pm
Ok...still missing a response from NoelleNY, but I have Eriiki's mobile, so I will post tomorrow the place to be for Sunday's hoop fest and as properly suggested by Eriiki, will try to make the location near a spot for "refreshments".

Sounds good... I also may have a 3rd dude with me, so without Noelle, we'll at least be 4. How about we just try the place at Englischer Garten (@blitz, do you know the exact location of this place?). So tomorrow, Sunday, at 3 pm? And if the weather looks like rain, we'll just cancel and figure out something next weekend?

actually, the place that I had in mind I found out belongs to a school and they take down the rims on the weekend. Are there others in English Garden?

Weather's turning out alright, a game is on! We've decided to go with a court in the park by Scheidplatz (dunno what the name of this park is???). 15:00, everyone's welcome.
To get to the court, take the u-bahn to Scheidplatz, exit towards Belgradstrasse. Once you are on street level, head north on Belgradstrasse walking along the park on the left. About 5 minutes up from the
U-Bahn step, you'll see a basketball court if you look left, and that's where we'll be.
Cheers!

Are you guys making this a regular event? I'd be up for playing sometime. There are bball courts I know of at Nordfriedhof and Olympia park as well.

I wouldn't mind playing at all either, though this weekend Ill be in Barcelona... Maybe sometime next week?
I heard there are some really good courts out at
Rosenheimerplatz somewhere, never been there, but I hear they're pretty good.

Nice to see the interest picking up. I was beginning to wonder if Basketball was some sort of illegal activity. I am trying to make this a regular activity on the weekends, however, I travel a bit and won't be here to get it put together. My suggestion is to try to pick a locale that is somewhat central and possibly near a place for the ever needed "end of the day" cold one. Some of us played last weekend and had a good time, but need to get the legs under me.
I will be in London this weekend so I am out, but eriiki sounded like he and some of his mates are up for it. I will up for it the following weekend.

I'm up for playing this weekend as well, definitely would like it to become a regular event! We can do different courts each time, whatever suits you all the best.
Sunday we played in a park just north of Schwabing; it was good - chain nets (better than no nets at all which can be the case quite often I think), and two hoops opposite each other as well, in case we actually get 6 or more people and can play a full court game. No court lines though, but easily solved with some chalk.
Do people like Sundays at 2 or 3, or are Saturdays better? If anyone has any ideas of courts (which it seems like), just post location, and we can discuss where next to play.

I could play anywhere. I know there's some street nets about 5 minutes walk from
Rosenheimerplatz at Orleanstr. next to the Aral station (I think it's a school). I think there are a few hoops set up there.
The one at Nordfriedhof is a full court, with markings and has plentiful parking. It also attracts lots of pickup games, so the hoops are not always available.
Olympia park has a single net that I've seen at the S.E. corner (schwere-reiter-str.). It doesn't have markings, and it's a "pool" of concrete on the walkway.
This guy thinks Arabella park has good nets.
If it were a regular event, my preference would actually be after-work since there's plenty enough light; and weekends are dedicated to shopping & the S.O.

It looks like at the very least, one week from this weekend should be a good turn out as NoelleNY hit me back and she is bringing her crew.
As for what day to play...I typically don't get out of the office until late during the week. Between that and all ready leaving early a couple times a week for German language lessons, my time is some what limited to make it a regular event during the week. Actually, Sunday probably works best for me.

Well, I'm fine to join in on the occasional spontaneous weekender. Can't make it a regular thing for myself on those days, unfortunately. Keep posting the dates y'all'l play, though.

There is a chance I might not be able to make it this coming weekend either - depending on how Sweden does in the Hockey World Championships in Austria (gotta support!

) Feel free to organize something for this weekend, or a weekday night, without me (and Blitz). Thanks to all for posting court suggestions too.
I've been living in Munich for 7 months now and desperately need to work out and snap my wrist a little bit...
Heard that there's always a bunch of guys playing at "Sales" (St. Wolfgangsplatz 9), close to Rosenheimer Platz.
I'll check it out...
