A few friends and I just booked a trip to Munich in April. I'm hoping to get the most out of the trip (particularly the nightlife)... Can anyone recommend some 'must see' places? Specifically, any good Irish pubs in the Zentrum area (I've heard Murphy's mentioned quite a bit here...), good (not pretentious) clubs/districts, lounges/bars, etc? Some people mentioned dress codes at some of the clubs - are they mainly the 'dapper suit' dress codes or 'clubwear' dress codes?Also, I read that Fruhlingfest (sp?) is going on then - can anyone tell me about that?? We're a group of cool, laid-back Americans just hoping to see what Munich really has to offer, and any info is appreciated.

Also, if anyone on an off chance plans on visiting Charlotte, NC, Tampa, FL, or Chapel Hill, NC, or Seattle, WA we'd be glad to offer tips on cooler bars there too. Thanks!

You want to see what Munich really has to offer, yet you are asking for a list of Irish pubs? Why not go to Ireland?

But to be helpful and not just cynical, here are some tips. Fruhlingsfest is good fun, not sure of the dates though. It's sort of like Oktoberfest, but only one/tenth of the scale. Far less tourists as well. If the weather is good (over 22 Celsius), go to a beergarden one evening. That's the real Munich.

Thanks - of course I realize Irish pubs aren't the real Munich, but those are often great places to meet people/visitors and continue the evening elsewhere.

And a beergarden (or two, or three) is definitely on the list. smile.gif

Beatnik, the Frülingsfest is on from April 17th to May 2nd. I personally don't like it as it's basically a load of funfair sytle stuff with a couple of small beer tents. Mostly populated with Turkish teenagers during the day. I just think it's a bit scummy.

Around the same time (April 26th - May 4th) you also have the Spring Auer Dult on the grounds of the Mariahilf church. That's possibly worth a visit for you.

Irish Pubs: Murphy's is good and you'll easily meet & get chatting to plenty of people if you wish. In my opinion, Kilian's is better. Just personal preference there.

Lots to tell, but no time to do it now. Will post more infos later. Dare I plug it, ok I dare, have a look at http://www.munichnights.com
for lots of nightlife info. Also AllOfMunich.com for plenty more.

@keydeck

could you be a bit more specific please?
don_riina
You could indeed go to the Hofbrauhaus, but if you really want to hang with drunken japanese businessmen, I recommend Japan.

what like the one george michael found himself in?

Aqua, I mean that from experience most of the people at the Frülingsfest seem to be Turkish teenagers and that the place seems to be a bit scummy. Primarily lots of cheapo stalls and loads of kids hanging around. Not my idea of a good day out.

I know what Keydesck means about the Fruhlingsfest, but I must say I was there a couple of years back, and had a great afternoon in the weissbiergarten there.
