The
Munich International Ski Club is a club for ski and snowboard enthusiasts of all nationalities. Everyone speaks English. There are day trips organised at least every fortnight throughout the winter as well as a few weekend trips and even one or two week-long skiing holidays. For the day trips there is a bus to the mountains organised. All you have to do is pay up in advance, arrive at the pick-up point, then enjoy the rest of the day skiing or snowboarding. The cost of a day trip is usually about €45.

Has anyone been to any of their trips? Good? Bad? Well organized? Bargain deal? Friendly people?

I went on a Munich Ski Club trip a couple of years ago and it was excellent. I went on one of their 3 day trips and had a fantastic time. It's quite a mixed bunch of people. Many Americans, just as many Germans. Some young people. But some old also, and we're talking
very old. I think the chairman of the club has been the chairman since 1967, and he still goes on the trips - although he does less snowboarding nowadays.
Daytrip - Sunday 12. 02. 2006 - Mayrhofenis anybody going with them this sunday?
I went last Saturday and had a great time except for twisting my knee on the last run down. I had three beers on the bus on the way back though, at 1 Euro per, which is not bad, and a very nice fellow carried my skis home for me. Have to call and get them back sometime. Shame I can't go along this Sunday, but I hope to be in skiing shape again soon, and I'd go with the group again anytime. Just wish they wouldn't start so early in the morning.
Fazit: highly recommended.

I'll be on both the night-skiing trip and the Mayrhofen trip. I met Gen there last weekend and am sorry she's injured, as we had a good time drinking together on the way back!
@Gen: take care of that knee so I can buy you a beer!
I can drink injured, you know. Still went out that night to Garibaldi's and
The Arc... where you all headed after Friday night anyway? Didn't you go to Kilian's or Kelly's (cannot keep those two straight)?

Went on the trip yesterday to St. Johann in Tirol: great fun, thank you again to the organizers!
Highly recommended for everyone - from beginners to advanced. You should be able to find people to ski with if you're on your own, and the organizers really did a great job watching out for everyone and making sure that people weren't left on their own. The €1 beer on the bus trip home was fun too...
Since they need a minimum of 23 people to break even on the transportation costs, I'm making this shameless plug for them. The next trip is planned for the 4th of March (Saturday) to
Alpbach Tal, which is supposed to be very nice. The trip costs €50 for nonmembers and €40 for members (membership costs €45/year, so worth it if you plan to go skiing a lot), and includes transportation by coach there and back and the ski pass for the day. There's also a trip planned in two weeks to
Zauchensee, as well as an end-of-the-season trip with a big party and food afterwards for only €5 extra.

Does anyone recommend this to someone whos NEVER been skiing in there life before. Seems like everyone hates to take along someone who can't/never has been skiing; and time for me is running out here to get into the snow.

Hi NightEye - It's no problem to go along if you have never been skiing before. We have had a lot of beginners / non-skiers on the trips. Dave can easily arrange for lessons at the selected destination. Every once in a while a member will offer to teach a beginner in exchange for lunch or a day pass. But I can't promise that that will always be the case.
There are only 3 more trips this season though - officially. (Though with this weather they might add another trip or two in April.)

I heard that the season finalé will be in Axamer-Lizum, one of my favourites for a day trip, with some sort of BBQ. Date has not been set yet.

Hm, I'm married to the guy who runs the trips and I haven't heard that (though that doesn't mean much!)
Anyway, there is still room on the trip this weekend, but the Party trip tends to fill up quickly - and I think they will stick with only one bus this year. Be it a glacier or Axam or someplace else (depending on the best snow - apres ski party combination) it will be a great time.
Johnny_who?
Mar 22 2006, 11:18 pm
I heard it might be Axams if the weather/snow is allricht. I've already signed up.

What deal is there for April 2nd? My boss wants me to put together something for the group so that we can bond or some shit.

Mar 22 2006, 11:58 pm
The 25th is officially the last trip of the season (hence the party), but most likely there will be another one or two trips, because the snow etc. is still great. I was on the trip last Sat, that's when I heard it.
@ eurovol - it's probably best when you contact Dave (info on the website) I'm not sure but I don't think he checks tt on a regular basis
DDBug
Mar 23 2006, 1:32 am
Hey Johnny - He doesnt, but his wife does.
Hey Eurovol - You and your boss bonding isn't planned for the ski club, but I'm sure Dave could organize something
Anyway - it looks like they are going to run two busses - axam is still not 100% ( it's either that or stubai) either way it's a great trip.
ps - only fun people on the bus I'm on please

@ OG - I'd say 99% of people who go on these trips are fun. Shame you can't make it though. Maybe next time.
Johnny Who is right though - contact Dave directly to save a spot.
Seems he is trying to get a bunch of
KFC for the party. yum yum.

So what's the story for this weekend? It said Glacier Trip so myself and a visitor were thinking of going with Sportsheck instead. But now it sounds like it might be going elsewhere.
Also, I see there is a BBQ before coming back to Munich. How long does this last? I'm trying to gauge what time the bus would be back in Munich?
Oh yah, and are spots even still available?
Looking forward to skiing one way or another this weekend!

Mar 23 2006, 9:51 am
It should say "Party Trip" (end of the season party) and they normally go to stubai (glacier), but go somewhere closer if the snow allows. Send Dave an email though about spaces.
It is a fun trip though. We should be back in Munich about 8-ish, I guess.

@ theJarvii: I'd say, if you have the choice the choice between
SportScheck and MISC, I'd go with MISC irrelevant of where they are going. Much more fun to be had with this group.

I am only worried about having to rethink my hut-hopping plans. At Stubai I knew when to get to the Dresdner Hütte and where to sit based on the weather.
Now I have to try and remember which were the cool huts at Axam, and which ones offer a safe route down in case I have to take off my skis ... Though, IIRC, Axam has a cool teepee "hut" at the bottom.

yes it does. my favourite is the panorama restaurant. iirc, this is at the top of the world cup Damenabfahrt.
The "Sunnalm" is also quite good and has a fairly easy red run down:

There's still spaces available for the
Munich Ski Club trip to Axamer Lizum this Saturday. This week they're running 2 buses.
If anyone fancies skiing or boarding it's a good day out. There's usually a better atmosphere on the bus than on the
Sportscheck trips.
I hear that since it's the first trip of the season, they might even be giving out some free bubbly in the morning
Check out

Who's thinking of going this weekend to Fieberbrunn? It's one of my favorite trips (even if you do have to be careful where you rent skis there ...).
Would be cool to have some cool tt'ers on the bus to share a glass of wine with on the way back as well!
