Amusing German place names

Has anyone noticed, there is a mountain in the Austrian Alps called "Wank"?

My favourite "linguistic double entendre" here in Germany has to be the street in Johanneskirchen called: Fürkhofstrasse.

I really should grow up.

I've got a photo of myself standing in front of a sign in Garmisch that says 'Wankbahn'. There's also a Wankstrasse there.

Actually I've heard that there's a place in Germany called "Wank", and that the people who come from there refer to themselves as "Wankers" - not sure if it's true or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

When I went to Neuschwanstein, I bought a drink from "Kiosk Wanke".

Along the same lines, I'm not sure I'd want to live in the S-Bahn town Grub. It's like saying you live in Maggot.

There's a street in Munich called Fuggerstraße. Photos of the street sign appear in magazines like Private Eye and Viz on a regular basis.

Just North of Olympiazentrum there is a Schittgablerstrasse...

Wank isn't a town, it's a mountain. At least in Bayern.

There is a shop opposite Sausalitos on Türkenstrasse called Suckfüll. It sells household items/fixtures.

On the train line to Augsburg, there's a stop called "Kissing".

Never noticed it, until I sat next to a few American teenagers on the train, and they got all excited and couldn't stop taking pictures...

I believe there is a "Bad Kissing" as well.

I'm thinking of getting it framed. I can recommend going up the old wankberg just for that shot and then you can pop into the Wankhaus at the top for a drink or something else...

Nearest silly name is the village of Föching outside Holzkirchen. We chose not to live there partly because its right near the Autobahn and also because I idn't want to tell people I live in Fücking.

There indeed is! It's a small Dorf near Bad Aibling (Kreis Rosenheim). I actually had the pleasure of living there. Before I spoke German well enough to understand what it meant, I wondered why the Germans used to crack up every time I told them where I lived.

In Hessen (near Darmstadt - also a lovely name), there's a Wixhausen. Hmmm...

I like the bus stop name Feuchtwangerstrasse.

When I did collecting I came across the strangest street names, but my favorite is Grosse Johannisstrasse in Hamburg (wie die Nase eines Mannes so auch sein Johannes). Must be lots of happy ladies in that street!

I think Scheidplatz is also quite amusing. It's one of the stations on the U-Bahn.
