Where are all the star players?

All this week the Munich BMW Open Tennis Championship is taking place at the Munich Tennis Club. This is a mens only tournament with 32 professional players competing.

It takes place at the courts at Aumeisterweg 10, near Studentenstadt, north side of Munich.

€323,250 prize money is up for grabs.

Games start at mid-day. The semi's and the final are Saturday and Sunday respectively (30.Apr, 01.May.2005). Tickets are to be found on munichticket.de for about €16.

Recent winners have been: Ivan Lendl, Michael Stich, Wayne Ferreira, Mark Philipoussis, and Roger Federer. You'll probably recognise all of those names. In 2003 the British player Tim Henman was here.

This year, however, there is not a single name on the player list which I recognise. Where are they? Prize money not enough to entice them over? Or are they training for another upcoming tournament?

Not huge big names, but some rising stars.
Davydov is in the top 10, I do believe, and Ancic is not far off.
Also Srchich-thingybob from Thailand and that young Russian Andreev. Plus some big name Germans.
Not a bad list, really. Still worth going if you can get a ticket. Better young rising stars than a tournament full of has-beens.

Haas, Davydenko and Ancic are all decent players.

I don't think they know yet, it's the semis on Saturday.
Say, Nalbandian is playing, he's the top seed and he's still in it. I'd really like to see that guy play in real life, if he makes the final I could try sneaking out of work early... Where is this being played?

OK, I found where it's being played, it's near Studentenstadt

Nalbandian vs Pavel in the final.
Worth seeing, I'd have thought.
2pm start.
