Hey people,

I am going out with the big boss of the company tonight, with some others. Where is a cool place near Rosenheimer Platz/Wiener Platz to take someone accustomed to 5 star hotels, and expensive wines and drinks in that part of town? We are first going out for food, but will probably kick on to something else afterwards, given the chance.

Schumann's new place, or the new place at the back of the opera. both names fail me at the moment.

Trader Vic's?

I've never been, but people seem to think it's snazzy.

Where are they off for food, then?

Try Nektar... super stylish and trendy.

yeah and Nectar is right by Gasteig, easy. Otherwise Juleps has a nice atmosphere, near Ostbahnhof.

I personally like Mövenpick at Lenbachplatz, great for cocktails or whiskey and cigars. If you have cocktails they bring a tray of different types of rum / whatever you've ordered, and you can pick which one goes in the drink. Cool. nice touch. Great music. And from Rosenheimer Platz it's only a couple of stops on the S-Bahn.

Or there's always the Glockenspiel Café right over Marienplatz, easy for transport and nice in the evenings...

EDIT:@ Showem, have you tried Vinaolo before? The dugustazione menu sounds cool, did that once in Verona, fab meal.. thinking birthday dinner is coming up... rolleyes.gif

yes, the location for dinner is fixed, and i'd like just a place nearby. Nektar sounds good.
greg
well we didn't end up going to Nektar, but there is always a next time. We spent most of the time at the restaurant argueing over which 100 euro bottle of wine was the worst (they certainly didn't taste 3x as good as the 33 euro bottles), or whether the waiter would stop recommending them. We did trotzdem have some great food, some good wines (see the link above to
Vinaiolo).
Then we went back to the boss's hotel bar and drank it dry. Gosh Tuesday was hard. I'll never be cruel to a gin and tonic again...

Haha. I wanted to recommend the hotel bar, but I thought I'd get old potatoes thrown at me. I really love them and can't usually be bothered to go anywhere else for business dinners...yes I know, I know, I am lame but I'm not the alone biggrin.gif
greg
well in general i hate eating at the hotel (it feels like you don't see anything while you travel, and every f**king citiy feels the same).
the restaurant that we went to was good, but the hotel bar was excellant. in fact I think maybe 5 star hotels are worth it because of them... but then again, why not stay in a pension down the road and spend the money you save in a real hotel bar!
