Back in Germany and in urgent need of a haircut. Not only that I have curly hair, but I have a LOTS of it. I currently live in Haag, but am willing to drive a bit for the right cut. Maybe it is too much to ask, but I am not willing to pay an arm and a leg for it, but beggars are not choosers. Any inputs are greatly appreciated.

I dont think there is any need to drive too far for a haircut. Unless you are wanting some sort of modern cut it is actually the easiest type of hair to cut. Even if the hair dresser did only a decent job at cutting it because it is curly you wont notice like you would on someone with straight hair.

Beela, do you have curly hair? It is very easy to cut it badly. By coincidence I am off to the UK in a week or so and will have it done there by someone I really trust and pay less than here. It is a long way to go but the girl who did it well here is gone and I just won't pay for someone who doesn't have curly hair cutting experience.

I try to get my haircuts at home as well, but did not have time nor need of a cut while there this summer..There is a lot that can go wrong and I learned from experience... That is why I am giving it a try to get some word-of-mouth recommendations... The problem is not the curls, but that I have too much of it... Not loosing hope yet....

I would be interested if you find someone good. My last haircut was in February! I try to wait til I am going home.

I can totally relate to the cutting curly hair issue, it is very difficult to find someone to cut it correctly. Whoever said it was easy to cut curly hair above - I can bet you have straight hair. I have below shoulder length very thick wavy/curly brown hair. I can highly recommend Miriam (salon owner) at Orplid Hair Salon on Schellingstraße 78, in Schwabing/Munich. Phone: 089 272 99 010 - ask specifically for Miriam, tell her Betty recommended you. She has thick curly hair and understands how to cut it as she has it! I wouldn't go anywhere else and she has been cutting my hair since I first moved here in 1998. We moved overseas for 6 yrs and I waited to have her cut my hair on business trips back to Munich. She won't overlayer your hair, cut it too short, she will NEVER NEVER thin it, slice it etc. all these things that fancy hairdressers with straight hair think is the right thing to do to curly hair. She is pretty booked so it might be hard to get an appt on short notice but give it a go.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. Miriam was lovely, the salon was nice; it's not terribly big, but has a nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly.
Miriam was really pleased when I said that you had recommended her and yes, she gave me a good haircut. At last a hairdresser who does not make rude comments about my curly hair. One more happy customer.

Her English isn't top notch, but she understands a lot and speaks a little, you should be okay in communicating. She takes time before your hair is cut or shampoo-ed to talk to you about what you want. She looks carefully at your hair see how it moves and falls, she runs her hands through it and messes it about so she has a very good idea how it behaves before she even starts.
