Hi all, I'm new to TT and have been living in Berlin for 7 months now.
I am getting married in December at the local Standesamt and would like to go on honeymoon in Germany. Does anyone have any suggestions? We were thinking of somewhere not too far from Berlin - we are going for 5 or 6 days. Maybe somewhere with a lovely village with cozy cottages or a bed and breakfast?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated
Cheers!

First of all, congratulations
Not in Germany, I know, but how about Poznan or Cracow? Very romantic old towns both...

Great Heavens - once in a lifetime - go at least into the Bavarian alps in the deep snow. Sleigh rides & that sort of thing....

the bavarian alps are great, but just in case you want to stay closer, maybe you can consider going north and staying at one of the many schlösser in mecklenburg schweiz. i was there with my family this year and it was lovely and very, very peaceful. we stayed at Ulrichshusen and drove around schloss hopping. also, the area is covered in beautiful lakes. we also ate very good food (this coming from an italian).
some schlösser i remember in particular: basedow, blücherhof, güstrow, gelbensande, schlemmin...
rügen is also very nice, but not sure how it is now that it is colder.
the rhein can also be an option, no?
and congratulations!

Schierke in Harz would fit the bill. Small, cozy village. You can hike/ride the train up the Brocken mountain. If there's snow you can cross country ski right there or downhill ski in Braunlage. Wernigerrode and Quedlingburg would be larger towns nearby with castles and all that. There would be more to see/do in those towns, but without the village atmosphere you'd get in Schierke. The Christmas markets around that area are supposed to be very nice as well.
No, it's not the Bavarian alps, but its closer and cheaper if that matters.

Check 'Ettal' (or anywhere in Süd-Bayern). It's a cosy little village on the Alps. You can hang around this place for sometime and also make
day trips or walk/hike to Linderhof/'Am Plansee'/Oberammergau/Garmisch and many other smalltime places around.
An other option would be to find some castles (which offer bed and breakfast) and spend some cosy time there. Five days would be too much to just stay in a castle, but you can probably fine one in a cool location, with many other things to do around.

Brilliant. Thanks a mil for all the recommendations - all sounding quite lovely. I'm going to do a bit of research into some of the places that were mentioned and see what I come up with. Will let you know.
Thanks again!
