Winter Boots in Berlin

Looking for boots for around €100

Before I start can I say that I searched this topic on Toytown before posting, with a variety of different search terms? I could only find responses that related to Munich.
If I've missed something, feel free to point it out.

I bought an expensive pair of women's Campers before coming to Berlin for the winter, only to discover that it is impossible to waterproof them (I've tried several different methods and I've had enough) and that 3 months after purchase there is a huge goddamn split in the sole. So much for my practical preparation.

So now I desperately need a new pair of boots. I wasn't intending on spending any money on shoes, so my (credit card) budget is about €100, perhaps slightly above, if need be.

Obviously the cheaper the better but I want something that is waterproof (or can be sprayed effectively) and will cope with the winter.

Not a big fan of knee high boots, more flat mid-calf style I guess and I do like the camper style, though they are now on my blacklist.

I know there has to be some awesome places out there because I have admired boots from afar on many a foot... going to start stopping random strangers and asking where they got them from too.

Any help much appreciated!

Hi there

I've only been in Berlin for a short while but I am sure that you could get a good pair of boots for that amount. Have a look at the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, I'm not sure where if that will be convenient for you. But there is a shop on the ground level, not sure of the name, the sells only shoes. I saw quite a number of flat boots there.

Good luck!

They're never cheap, but you could pick up a good pair of totally waterproof Keens or similar at Globetrotter down in Steglitz. You can see a lot of their stock online to price it out first. Of course, the website is German only, but it's not a tough one to figure out.

Just a passing thought, but would your pair of Campers still be under guarantee? - If there is a big split in the sole after so little use, it sounds to me as if there was something wrong with them in the first place..........................(?)

I find EBAY is a great resource, amazing deals, if you don't mind not being able to try on before you buy.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've had a look at Alexa in Alexander Platz (suggested by a friend) and I also checked out Potsdamer Platz Arkaden today Tandz - thanks for that.

Still no luck but I'll keep looking. Might be being a bit fussy looking for my ideal 'Berlin boot'...I saw some really awesome (e x p e n s i v e) ones in Kreuzberg which I think I have in my mind, not helpful!

My Campers may still be under guarantee - good thought - but unfortunately I bought them in Australia. Don't have my receipt, can't really afford to post them back. I will send Camper an email though, even if it's just to tell them how annoyed I am. The split in the sole isn't the only problem I have had with Campers. The style I have has little red buttons on the side and on the first two pairs I had the studs kept breaking off in each other, until they finally recalled all the boots and replaced them with a style with a zip. Which hasn't turned out any better obviously.

I love Ebay MFD76, have bought lots of stuff, but if I'm going to wear these shoes all winter I would prefer to try them on. Might do some research though and see if I can find a pair I like and then search for them on ebay.

It's worth taking the campers into a campers shop and asking if there's anything they can do. I've swapped faulty items in a few different countries at stores in another country like a handbag from Gap I bought in Canada at a shop in Edinburgh, or a pair of Clarks shoes I bought in Berlin at a store in London. I didn't have the receipt any of the times. As long as it isn't that old, even better if they stock the same or similar item. It's not been possible every time, but it's worked for me more often then not.

Good idea GG!
It would be worth trying to take the boots back to the next outlet, - even without a receipt, the company surely knows it´s own product range.

I'd say Leisers or Geox....

My boots are Tamaris, and are pretty good (so far, only had them 2 weeks) and were reduced to 69EUR, and are leather. Have a look either in a Tamaris shop, or a shop that stocks them.

My recommendation would be the Gesundbrunnen shopping centre, as there's a Tamaris shop and a whole load of other shoe shops, including some quite cheap ones.

hi,

i bought a pair of cheap cheap boots at netto. don't know if they'll actually hold up but they are warm. i tried them on the cold/rainy days and sometimes they are too warm! for 18euro if they make it through one winter it's worth it. they are mid calf black zipper with tie to tighten.

i have yet to find the perfect coat, if you have any suggestions, let me know. i'm very picky. would like super cheap, a-line, extremely warm down to calf, hood, can withstand snow/rain, warm warm warm.

let me know if you want to go shopping.

Thanks for your help.

I did go into the Camper store, only to be told that they can't do anything because I bought the shoes in Australia; they just gave me a card to ring Customer Service. They were really nice, but the result was kind of as I expected. On the upside, they told me that Campers are guaranteed for 2 years so by the time I get home they should still be under warranty.

They look like this: http://www.stylefeeder.com/i/nqrlyslq/Camper-Women-Apos-S-Peu-Ideal-Ankle-Boot

And I'm kind of looking for something similar.

Found some nice Kickers today for 125 in a little shop in Kreuzberg, but not in my size. I think I've found them online http://www.spartoo.com/Kickers_KOBOOT-x31939.php?track_id=soo&sx=F but will need to ask my my unflagging German speaking friend to help me work out ordering/ postage etc.

Otherwise, next stop: Gesundbrunnen shopping centre!

P.S Does anybody know which other stores might stock Kickers of if there is a specific Kickers store in Berlin? My own google searches haven't turned up anything but it's partly because the results are in German and I can't sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak.

According to this Kickers stockists in Berlin there are eight retail outlets that stock Kickers stuff in Berlin although only a few are centralish. Scroll down the page and use the drop down box to put your district in to get info on what each one of the eight stocks. It is in German sorry but I think it is fairly straight forward if you get stuck yell.
