Other than the lucky (?) sods who will stand out in the cold to hear one - two - three -
four U2 songs at the B-berg Tor today and the city-advertised events on Monday, what's the word on the street as to what's REALLY going to be fun?
Note: There's already a T-town post on this topic that was started in February but it's stale and doesn't go beyond the usual stuff.

Achtung Baby!
"I have run. I have crawled. I have scaled these city walls.... Only to be with you."
I was very much looking forward to the concert and that historic event. This has been ruined by the U2 Junta's raising of a 2 meter high wall to block people's view. If no one from U2 can see the obscene hypocrytical nature of this act then they really have lost the plot if they hadn't already. The free ticket holders will get in to act as stooge extras as part of Viacom's MTV's broadcast of the Awards Ceremony. The concert will be a brief affair.
The only other people getting a free view will be the inhabitants of the elite Adalon. The bankers of disaster from the balcony of the Dresdner HQ, the American embassy staff and perhaps the rich and famous who may watch fro the Academy of Art. It seems as nothing has changed in the last twenty years after all.
'Tear down this wall Mr. Bono', if you really want us to know you mean what you say.

Totally vile.
But what do you expect from a bunch of hypocritical
tax evaders?

I'm off to see U2 tonight and it will be great. Read today it was MTV's decision to block the concert with their wall, which is crap.

Not to cast any aspersions on your source, but the article's author doesn't even know the difference between
Where The Streets Have No Name and
Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (he also doesn't know how to capitalize song titles).

You say that like tax evasion is a bad thing. When another country provides a superior service and lower taxes we should encourage more people do the same.

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for... Sigh. Please guys, if you don't have anything to post regarding fun things to do around Mauerfall, just abstain. This is NOT about complaining about U2, MTV or taxes.

Katchyta, my friends and I are planning on bringing a backpack full of Berliner beers (Pilsner, Kindl, Schultheiß) and playing tourists along the wall. This will be my fourth year here on "Berlin Wall Day" as I call it and no one ever wants to celebrate anything, so I'm super excited for the party this year! Been looking forward to it for months If you've ever been at Brandenburger Tor at New Year's you'll know that outdoor parties there are rad, tons of people, music, booths, basically just being swept up in the crowd of revellers.
Besides drinking Berlin beer I'll be wearing my Berlin hoodie and we'll be eating Currywurst and doing every other cheesy, corny, touristy Berlin thing possible. Basically just celebrating being in the city!

It would be politically incorrect to celebrate on November 9th because it's the
Reichskristallnacht. That's why they made October 3rd Reunification Day and not November 9th. They're making an exception with the 20th anniversary this year, but that's ok, because they're starting on the 7th. So enjoy your beer and currywurst.

I truly hope that the MTV Wall is meant to be part of the performance. Hey, maybe the idea is that people will climb it and tear it down??? I just can't believe they would be so oblivious to the irony.
Then again, they might not be stupid. Just incredibly cynical.

I know. Hence my point about the 20th anniversary being special. They did bugger-all for the 10th.

Just remember you will have to have them all drunk by the time you get to security on Unter den Linden. No bottles allowed as per usal.

calberlin, I'm hoping not!!! But you're right, they usually do check. I have a little flap in the bottom of my pack, so I can probably slip a couple beers past em, works every time You reckon they would take a plastic bottle? I suppose I could compromise my principles and bring ALDI beers for the Tor

dessa I have managed to get the ALDI plastic bottled beers in. Have em in the fridge for a day before however. I'm not sure how high the security level will be but I bet top level. Remember the world is watching and all the top brass will be there so it might even turn into Airport security...
I hope you enjoy. Bring a hip flask perhaps.
