The Berlin Love Parade, founded in 1989 and in its peak period having well over 1.5 Million participants, has been cancelled this year for the second time and it's unlikely it will ever happen again. The trouble started when a court ruled it was to change from a political event to a commercial one, which inflated the costs substantially. Also Grüne and FDP politicians previously tried to exploit the event for themselves, which was a major turn-off.
"Love Parade" is a Trade Mark and copies of it have taken place in San Francisco, Acapulco, Tel Aviv und Santiago de Chile.

Finally!
Techno and House is dead - Hurrah!!!
Finally we can move back to music played on real instruments with soul and feeling.
I've been predicting this for a while. Every under 21 I talk to says that Techno and House is for old gits.
However, everything goes round and round. Wait until 2025 and Techno will be having a revival.

It could still continue, if they really want it to.. Just need to find a new city, willing to give them $$ breaks and willing to recieve much more $$$ from the people who come. (Think Resturants & Entertainment places) I say let'em come to Munich... Yeah Right!!! like that will ever happen

damn it... I get to play the devil's advocate again.
You know you danced to 80's music made from drum machines and synthesizers!!! There is no denying it!
Ok, having gone through a techno phase, I'd like to just say that not all techno is bad and repetitive. It's like saying all Rock is like Nirvana. Rock has it's branches... death metal, heavy metal, soft rock, classic rock, grunge, christian, on and on. Techno is the same way. There is DnB, Trance, Techno, Jungle (which are the 4 I'd classify as crap and ultra-repetitive), and also House and Dance. House and Dance are the style that you hear on the radio with songs like the remake of San Francisco that is popular right now. While they are repetitve, they do such on the same level as most other songs in the sense of coming back to a 'corus' section.
That said, DnB, Trance, Techno and Jungle can die out and I'd be happy. I never had to be on drugs or drunk to enjoy a night of Dance and House. But I've sure as hell had to be wasted to survive a night of 70's / 80's!!!

@Sin
i was just refering to the snobbery of it. many years ago i had a very heated argument in a pub about whether new order where better than cliff richard. a rather foppy friend of mine said cliff was loads better as he didn't use computers.
i find the real instruments argument irrelevant, if you can make music on a synth, computer, laptop, whatever, it's fine by me.

Techno is allright.. Doctor Who theme song and Kraftwerk etc.. Its all good stuff. When such bullshit as house and trance came along and people started calling that techno, yeah, I guess that was the beginning of the end.
Techno scene seems to be heading into the dnb direction now anyway, and "love parades" just dont really fit anymore...
Kind of like how rap and hip hop evolved and are still popular but you never see little breakdancing contests going on in the streets anymore like you did at the beginning.
Techno like most musical styles will always have followers, but all the tacky addons that people try to attach to the music, like the fluffy pants, guys wearing makeup, whistles and fucking glow sticks, good riddance to all that bullshit...

The Berlin Love Parade was basically a victim of its own success. The more people who went, the bigger the problems, and the more the politicians tried to get rid of it. But it's nonsense to say that the scene is dead - the
Zürich Street Parade is a Love Parade spin-off and is the largest street festival in Europe, even larger than the Notting Hill Carnival. The
Paris Techno Parade is also huge.
Sorry, oldies

I actually was never really into techno/house much til I moved to Germany. Since I now work at a techno club I have gotten into it alot more. I actually prefer House over techno.
If its dieing out, then someone needs to teach the German djs how to mix hip hope, and to stop playing Wham, Vanilla Ice, and god knows what else. I would much rather hit my club anyday then be put through some of the crappy music I have heard at the clubs around here. Ofcourse I am not in the Munich area, so maybe its better.. but the clubs around here.. wow they need some serious help.

@ mere it’s not really been a let down, I just knew I had to calm down and change my ways.
TBH if I hadn’t stopped doing (e) then I would probably be dead or in a mental institution by now and most of my mates back home are all now doing Charlie which was an expensive road that I started to go down then turned back.
Its just sometimes I miss the whole “live for the weekend clubbing thing, because whatever people say there is no feeling better on this planet than buzzing and dancing your tits off on an (e).
Well apart from sex and Port Vale beating Stoke City.

This sucks, that sucks, you don't what you're talking about, blah, blah, bullshit.
So which letter are you guys?
A: I have an opinion about music.
B: I have an opinion about music. Your opinion is wrong.
C: I have an opinion about music. Your opinion is wrong, and it's because you have wrong opinions about which opinion-makers to listen to.
D: Your opinion is right, but for the wrong reasons. You apply the wrong reasons to the wrong bands. You should stop doing that.
E: I agree with D, but I listen to a still more obscure set of bands than he does. That makes me righter.
F: I listen exclusively to Swedish trip-hop on 45s. I am righter still.
G: I commission deaf-mute Zimbabwean hermits to record ambient sound onto wax cylinders, which are then shipped to me in an armored car to make sure that no one else in the world ever listens to them. That's how right my opinions about music are.

My opinion is that any music written or produced by someone with a talent is fine. I may not like that style of music and so choose not to listen to it, but I won't criticise it or say it's crap. That's why the 'techno music is crap' stuff irritates me. As I already said, music lovers need to unite against the boy bands!

That's a tricky question and you'll probably getting loads of different suggestions.
- Golden Boy with Miss Kittin - Rippin Kittin
- Timo Maas - Shifter
- Underworld - Born Slippy (???)
- Prodigy - Voodoo People
- Carl Cox - Phoebus Apollo (?)
- Chemical Brothers - Under The Influence
(I know too many songs... Can't think of any... Aaaahhh...)

Techno music, like most electronic music, is less about each individual song and more about a set. A 'journey' supposedly. So you'd be better off downloading some DJ sets. Here are some examples, depending on the style of techno (by country):
British: Carl Cox
French: Laurent Garnier
German: Timo Maas
American: Josh Wink
Belgium: Yves Deruyter
