Strange question- I've been in Dresden for a while. Experiences are so-so. Problem is I like working on my car and not getting ripped off by the dealer, and the only place I've found for parts outside of ATU is the place on Bautzner Landstrasse. I guess places like Pep Boys and Napa don't exist here. It was pretty expensive, too. Near dealer pricing.
Anyone have any tips, as well as where to get good quality tools locally, and not the Baumarkt level stuff?
Also, what kind of experiences, good and bad, have you had out in this part as an American? Unfortunately, my experiences haven't been phenomenal, even in my uni classes, and even in my language courses at the uni. Some closed-mindedness, and constant shots being taken at me during classes.

Hello there,
I have some Mexican friends that love doing the same thing as you that go to my School. I will get some info for you today about parts, and tools. I also am from America, and have been here 7months....and share your feeling Although the people I talk to regularly are awesome, and have cool German Spouses...well, it doesn't speak for the majority of the people around here. Tonight there is English club..It will be my first one to go to but if you wanna join feel free to. Look at Events for Dresden to see location, time. A friend that I made here will be there, and he is from Austin. He and his Wife (who is German) attend these events regularly, and enjoy them. Anyway, if you want to meet some open minded english speakers come on out! Ciao- Malinche
