How to explain Sozialpflichtig - Germany

Update: Sozialversicherungspflichtig

kylehb
I have to go back to Ireland to get a form from the employment office saying whether or not I worked 'sozialpflichtig'. Can anyone tell me how best to explain this to the authorities back home? Thanks.

It´s probably sozialversicherungspflichtig...

You know, you're probably right. Ta.

Well, I am not sure why you need it, but in Germany you are sozialversicherungspflichtig in health insurance when you are employed and your salary doesn't exceed 48.600,00 EUR p.a. for the last 3 years. If it does you are allowed to choose between the public or private health insurance. Then you are not sozialversicherungspflichtig. As a freelancer you have the choise independant on you salary, but you have to pay health insurance to a public or private insurance company...

Regarding Rentenversicherung = Pension insurance it is mandatory to pay in the public pension insurance when you are not a so called Freiberufler, which means a: doctor, a lawyer, tax advisor, architect...

In the Arbeitslosenversicherung = unemployment insurance you are sozialversicherungspflichtig when you are employed. When you are a freelancer it is not mandatory.

to go more into detail I need some more information:
Why do you need it? (For whome? or for what?)
Are you an employee or freelancer?

BTW, I was an HR specialist working with Expats some years ago. Maybe I can help you....

I think (but amn't an accountant or anything so bear that in mind) that you just need something saying you paid or were liable to pay PRSI. Which, if you were a PAYE worker you did have to. this link might have some useful info for you. If you were self-employed then I'm not sure what the PRSI situation is but the revenue website is easy enough to search.

If you ever worked in Ireland and paid PAYE/PRSI then a P60 would show that you paid PRSI and you might just be able to show them that. If they need proof that you actually paid PRSI then that will at least show them that year's amount.
