LAN Gamers initial/final meetup

TBD: Date and location

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich
parnell
Right , DrivingWest and meself have ruminated upon the lack of nerdness in the board of late so we're gonna put the LAN games thing back on the agenda. The Arc has been suggested as a venue due to WiLAN set up but Im not sure if we have enough hardware for that. A hub would seem to be the way to go to which Im happy to contribute.

Times places bums seats

Inflateablewoman ?
CodeRed ?
Any more ?

i suggest we all do this unshaven , drink , fart a lot and exchange porno movies as well at the venue.

WHAT SAY YE ?
Kebab Meister
What games you have in mind?
DrivinWest
@KM

We've thrown around a few possibilities:

Counter-Strike: Source
Counter-Strike (original)
StarCraft
America's Army

One advantage to StarCraft is that it can run on just about any half-way decent laptop plus I have the CD allowing primary and client installations.

The others will require some respectable hardware (and software) but if we get enough confirmed I have no problem hauling my rig around.

I'm also down for the hub idea out of ease.
Tom17
I might possibly be up for this bit of quality nerding... I will keep an eye on the thread smile.gif
BostonSportsFan
Holy crap, Starcraft. I haven't played that in ages. Keeping my yearly dose of nerdness has been tough being away from RPI, so might as well join in on this
judders
I will be in for a game of counter strike biggrin.gif

How about red alert?
Trig
CS
TFC
red alert 2

I would be up for it.
judders
oh does anyone have a machine i could use rolleyes.gif, maybe a laptop?
Inflatablewoman
I have to lug my pc to the arc?
Kebab Meister
I don't mind people taking turns on my laptop if that helps?
DrivinWest
It seems like laptops are preferred which limits our selection of games (not a problem though).
3 Lions
I'd be up for this, but same as IW, have to drag my PC with me.
Inflatablewoman
If I could borrow a laptop, I could show you all how to play counter-strike. Or maybe DOD... cause I am a god at that.
BostonSportsFan
All I have is my laptop here. Anyone got an extra USB mouse I could borrow? Gaming with the nipple or the touchpad isn't the greatest...
Trig
no i know what you mean BSF i dont perform well when nipples are involved either.
Kebab Meister
My laptop is pretty beefy (P4 3.2g, 512mb RAM, 128mb ATI Mobile Radeon 9700). Having said that, it has a tendency to overheat/lockup on graphic intensive games.
DrivinWest
@ KB

That rivals my desktop tongue.gif
Bumpy
You guys play AOE?
DrivinWest
Only played the Pocket PC version of AoE. Love it.
spuzzum
I have two laptops. Can easily bring both. One however is a PIII so the selection of game would be important. The other which I would use can usually run any game on the market with no problem.
Trig
raaahh AOE love that game. Haven't played it in a while though.

anyone ever played AOM very similar but a little more complex.
BostonSportsFan
My laptop is a P4 1.8GHz, 256MB, with a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 card. Can handle some basic games, but anything high end with a lot of graphics acceleration needed could give it trouble.
Jeff
I would go for tetris...
parnell
OK this thing fell away last time cos of lack of organisation and I as an Irishman am not gonna let that happen again! So we're lookin at next two weeks latest...Im good for Saturday ...what say you!?

We've a few bank holidays comin up as well tho.

i love Starcraft and have a hacked full version which can be installed from my USB stick so im good to go on that...other games ill need to kno about in advance.
Kebab Meister
What time Saturday? I'm going to the Over 30s night (and drinks beforehand) in the evening. I'm away 30 Apr - 1 May, and then have a friend visiting 6-9 May! So I doubt I can make it just yet?
maddul
Havnt been a Protoss Templar for some time. Wouldnt mind seeing if I still got some of Seratuls teachings left in me.
DrivinWest

Loser. Everybody knows the Zerg are where it's at.
parnell
Zerg are pretty animal I have to admit - DW are u good for tomorow ? Do we have a hub ? Shall we buy one in the am (I have to go to Saturn in any case) ?
DrivinWest
I've got so many errands to run tomorrow that I highly doubt I'm gonna have the time.
BostonSportsFan
Gonna have to pass if it's this Saturday.
Jawn
I prefer Counter-Strike Source, Half Life Deathmatch, Battlefield Vietnam (BF1942) but I am up to trying anything. I can't make it Saturday but next weekend looks open.

I am not sure if anyone would be interested in coming out Augsburg way but I am more than happy to host a LAN party all night. I have many switches, network cards, cables etc. I also have room to accomodate up to 10-15 people comfortably.

I think The Arc would be cool except I dont see us bringing our desktop PCs there, maybe we could.

I have a decent laptop (ATI 9200) but it pales in comparison to the desktop (ATI 9700)

Let me know if it is going to happen later than Saturday or if it does go Saturday, how late will it go? I may be free later in the evening

One other thing we could do is FILE SWAP!
parnell
I've got wheels these days so Augsburg not a problem - can bring 4 dudes/dudettes plus machines although it's a squeeze - Renault Twingo. Give us a good night you're free Jawn.
Jawn
Saturday April 30 - 4pm until we get tired (in 1995 we played Doom LAN style until 4am)

I live south of Augsburg (Bobingen). A96 or A8 depending on where you live.

Easy to get a train here as well if you have some way of carrying your computer. I do have one extra computer (could use more ram though)

Counter-Strike Source is incredible but hard to get around buying it. Best situation is to buy online and download in preparation for April 30.

If coming out this way is too far , again I am willing to come to a venue in the city.

I need some assistance getting a Counter-Strike server up and running

Let me know.
ChemicalBurn
I havent played any of those in AGES, though I probably can't make it either way. Dont have a laptop, and my PC here is crap.
Though since most don't have well equipped laptops and whatnot, aren't there some sort of places where you can go and play LAN games at here instead of people lugging along everything they have and back?
Back home they're all over the place!
But I would add the suggestion of Warcraft 3. If you like StarCraft you're bound to love that!

I've play AOM as well, but still prefered AOE. Didn't like the idea that you had to build settlements on specific places only...
Kebab Meister
Can't make 30 April, going to the Pilsen trip. Really need more notice on dates so we can all ensure our diaries are clear.
3 Lions
Once we've done this. If for example we play CS, isnt it possible then to set up an private online game if we all provide our IP addresses?*

*I have a limited understanding of online gaming!!

My machine is a PIII 700Mhz, so should cope ok with CS. Dont know about the others?
Jawn
How many gamers are going to the Pilsen trip? Shall we schedule for another date?

April 30?

May 6 or 7?
Kebab Meister
I can't make any of those dates, already got plans.

Suggest you do a vote and then go with the flow. I can always make it next time, no probs.
Jawn
see vote/poll page at LAN Gaming Night
marya
Would this be laptops only? Or will there be facilities for desktops as well? My laptop can handle Starcraft easy, and CounterStrike Original with some lag, but if we're gonna play anything like Warcraft 3 or AOM, I don't think it can take it.
