France and Germany will join forces to choose a new-look European Union's first big boss, President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday, sweeping Tony Blair towards the Brussels exit.
The French head of state said he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had agreed to back "the same candidate," adding that the pair shared the same "vision" for two new top jobs to be created under the Lisbon Treaty, and their favoured runners.
Confirmation that Berlin and Paris were collaborating on arguably the biggest appointment in the bloc's history came in the wake of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown campaigning personally on behalf of Blair.

It is bad enough that some lunatics have wanted Tony Blair as president of the EU. At least some people are taking a stand against that. See,
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stopblair/signatures.html.How
The president of the EU is an important job. We do not need imbeciles, religious fundementalists, halfwits, idiots, criminals, mafia, sycophants or other forms of idiots in charge.
We need capable politicans who can juggle all competiting European interests and who are extremely good diplomats to take the job.
We do not need as president of Europe, a nationalistic sycophant of some vested business interest or pressure group.
Whoever is made president of Europe needs to identify as a European who will put Europe and Europeans first in all matters, regardless of vested national interests.

It was pretty clear that Mr. Iraq war had no real chance for getting that job.
It should be someone who is , at least, not disliked in most or better , all of the member countries (try to find one who is actually popular) and at the same time brings a reputation of excellency in foreign affairs.
The irony is that with these two characteristics in mind a good choice would be Angela Merkel herself. Only problem : She already has a job and is with that, out.
Im pretty sure that if her party would have lost the election , she would be Nr.1 on the suggestion list now.

Well, I chose the user name "Logic Guy" because I have come to realize that logic is the only thing that is perfect.
A lack of true intelligence has all but ruined the human experience.
The world is drifting ever so close to an irrevocable condition. Therefore, someone who has "brand new ideas" should be selected as leader of Europe.
Whomever become Europe's leader, that individual will to some extent, be the most significant government leader on the planet.
We as humans have been trying to do the same thing, over and over again for thousands of years now. And obviously nothing has worked. At the moment, we are stuck in a hopeless state.
Albert Einstein once said "Only a fool expects a different result from the same equation".

Karl Von Hapsburg, where are you? It is time for you to take the reins of power in Europe.

er, that rather depends who is chosen. The role is relatively undefined in the Lisbon treaty other than as chair of the councils of ministers. Beyond that the role will largely be fully articulated by the first candidate to hold that post. If it is Juncker then the role of president will become just a council chairman role with virtually no public power at all.
