My husband (Irish) and I (American) are moving from Stuttgart (Herrenberg) to Munich with our two children (American-born ages 6 and 9). We just spent a week looking for accommodation in Munich and on our last day we saw a lovely (really perfect) house, but it's in Aubing. We'd like to be somewhere quiet with an easy commute to the city center where I'll be working. Aubing fits the bill in several respects, but it didn't seem to have a town center and we had the impression it was rather run-down in many areas. Having said that, we didn't have much time to look around. Any feedback, thoughts or advice on Aubing would be very, very welcome indeed. Thanks!

I lived there once upon a time. It is quiet but there are a ton of families. I don't know how many English speakers you will find, hope you speak German. Theres a huge strawberry patch and this enormous childrens play arena by the Sbahn. The Sbahn itself is poorly lit at night and my bike was stollen from there twice. There are no great restaurants and no real city center but like I said, its good for families. Hope that helps.

Aubing is a small suburb of Munich, you could do worse. If you have found a perfect house there, then I'd say go for it. You are no distance from Munich and also close to the five lake region- just a short journey on the S-Bahn, regional train. Once established come back and we'll give you tips on places to visit.

@letscallthewholethingoff, which part of Aubing were you in? The house we are look at is in Aubing-Lochhausen-Langweid, not Nueaubing. Do you have a sense that one is better than the other? Also there are two S-Bahn stations we could use, Langweid S4 to the north or Aubing S8 to the south...which one was your bike stolen from? Many thanks! (BTW, we all speak German so that's not an issue.)

It was taken from Aubing. I was living in between Aubing and Leinfelserstr. stops on the S8.

Hi
We've been living in Aubing for about 6 yrs now and bought a house in Alt Aubing 2.5 yrs ago. It's a lovely place to live, avoid Neuaubing though. School is v good too. There is a small centre but I do find I have to jump in the car quite a lot. The town centre is v handy, only 15 mins to Hbf so if you've found the perfect house, why not? Everyone is v friendly as it's smaller too.
Hth and feel free to ask if you want any more info about living here

I live in Neuaubing and disagree with the post above, there are some really nice areas in Neuaubing as well. If you avoid the old workers housing district which is West of Limesstrasse and stick to the East of Limesstrasse there are lovely homes/apts and many new ones being built. We love this area and have everything we need Edeka, baker, metzger etc. closeby. I am near the S5 Neuaubing. Don't have kids so don't know about the schools. We enjoy the quiet neighborhood and the affordable rent. We live in a new (built in yr.2000) home have about 135sq meters, lovely balconies with a garden view and don't pay downtown Munich prices. I can bike or walk to the S-bahn and be at the Hauptbahnhof in 17 minutes. Am in the city several times per week. Aubinger Einker is our favorite Biergarten in the area. We sail quite a bit and both Amersee and Stanbergersee are closeby. Enjoy!
