I just visited a local German dentist with my children who was recommended by a German friend. He and his staff were very charming but his own teeth were in a terrible state! Crooked, collapsing inward and he looked like he had gum disease . I am British and lived in the US for 13 years. Whatever criticisms people may make of American health care from a European perspective I believe their dentistry to be of a much higher standard. No American dentist would have any patients with teeth like that. Anyway, needless to say I am not full of confidence and would like to find an American dentist or one trained in the US. I am willing to drive some distance and am about 50 minutes from Kaiserslautern, and 30 from Heidelburg and Mannheim. So if you can highly recommend a pediatric dentist/family dentist please do. Also an Orthodontist of the same caliber would be great.

Ok I have found a practice with two American dentists on staff plus their hygenists are trained in the US. The German practice said they did not professionally clean children's teeth so that was another concern of mine. My daughter will be seen on Friday so I will let you know how we get on. http://www.ramsteindental.com/seite2.html

Aquamarine,
YES! Thank you for the link and your experience so far. Wife and I reviewed it and are very interested to see how it goes for you. Our daughter who is 11 will need braces, etc. We arrive in Germany in a few days for probably 5 years, I have federal blue cross blue shield and metlife dental. I look forward to reading your follow up.
Thanks!
