Bosnian Serb 'Iron Lady' released

Out on good behaviour after 6 years

Lorelei
Don't worry if you're convicted of crimes against humanity. You can be out in six years wearing your fur coat. Radovan Karadzic must be quaking in his boots!

Bosnian Serb 'Iron Lady' released
Former Bosnian Serb President Biljana Plavsic has been freed from prison after serving six years for war crimes. The UN war crimes court granted her early release for good behaviour from the 11-year sentence it passed in 2003. Plavsic, 79, known as the "Iron Lady", was the highest-ranking official from the former Yugoslavia to have pleaded guilty for her part in the Bosnian War... Plavsic was indicted by The Hague tribunal in 2001 for genocide and other crimes during the Bosnian war in the 1990s...She later pleaded guilty to persecution of non-Serbs in return for all the other charges being dropped and a shortened sentence of 11 years.

...Plavsic dramatically confessed to crimes against humanity...In a document setting out the agreed facts, Plavsic acknowledged she covered up crimes, ignored widespread allegations of criminal acts and "publicly rationalised and justified the ethnic cleansing of non-Serbs."

This is pretty normal stuff. She served more than 50% of the sentence and then got let out.

Happens 1000s of times every single day for all sorts of criminals from muggers to murderers.

Muggers and murderers being let out early is bad enough, but they generally have a single victim. This woman contributed to the deaths of thousands.

Thats the problem with concurrent instead of consecutive sentencing and plea bargining.

Charged with genocide etc - convicted of being a bit mean towards non serbs.
