Printing and Hardcover Binding in Hamburg

Anyone know where I could get this done?

Djecker
I heard Staples does it, but the website only refers to softcover.

Any ideas?

Hi,
I just had to hand in a hardbound 170 page thesis...was difficult to get printed... your best bet is to print all the pages up as cheap as possible in a normal print shop and then bring them to a Buchbinder...they are the only people who can do hard covers and who can print on the spines. Some print shops can do the cover but cannot print on the spines. Almost all universities accept soft bound theses and dissertations in Germany and that's why normal print shops don't do hard cover.

It might be worth going to a few Buchbinder(ei) shops... i got quoted some wildly different prices... ended up with 35 europes pro book (170 pages [printing was separate] with lettering on the cover and spine)

Congratulations on your work and good luck!

thanks mate, googled that got a couple of hits. printing shouldn't be a problem, only the binding.

if anyone would like to recommend a place...

Don't have any clue whether they are good, but it may be worth a try:
Elbe Werkstaetten

They employ mainly handicapped people and so offer tax advantages and do books on demand as well.
In case you try them, share your experience.

Previously there was a Xerox copy center not far from the city hall, but I could not find out whether it still exists. They did a real good job a while back.

Have you tried Books on demand (www.bod.de)? You have to submit the contents in pdf format and chose between different bindings/designs. The "Fun"-option comes without any extra costs (you only pay for the books you want). Only remember to cancel the contract, as soon as you have your copy, else they charge you € 1,99 per month.

don't bother going to Book Binder

Good luck, 'cos you're going to need it here on TT and in the big wide HH (1,75 million residents) world: I know you're new but perhaps browsing the categories would help as opposed to hijacking a thread and posting something irrelevant?

P.S. What is a mamber?
