Filthy flat filled with 300 abandoned guinea pigs - Germany

Around 300 abandoned guinea pigs were rescued from a filthy flat in Aachen over the weekend, according to the police.

The authorities had to break into the ground-floor apartment after the neighbours reported a horrible stink emanating from the place. The renter was not at home, but she had left hundreds of the fuzzy rodents to fend for themselves.

Rescue workers were able to gather 270 of the guinea pigs, however, they estimate at least another 30 are hiding the piles of rubbish in the flat. Police did not say how long the pet owner must have been gone, but in some rooms there were piles of guinea pig droppings 10 centimetres high.

People really think they can treat animals like this? Disgusting and heartbreaking. I hope they don't even think about giving them back.

Authorites later determined that the flat owner had not been to work in nearly one month. Nor had she been heard from since paying her October rent.
Detectives working the began to wonder how guinea pigs could last that long without food.
Their questions were answered when lab technicians discovered peculiarly large amounts of protein in the guinea pig droppings. Further tests revealed the the source of the chemical was...HUMAN DNA!
They had eaten their abusive land lord!!!
Moral of the story: Don't mess with guinea pigs.

They're rodents, they probably breed fast. I reckon somebody just left 2 of them for about a week with no guinea pig contraceptives at hand*, and hey presto, 300 of them almost overnight.

Pff, that's only about 5 minutes work for 300 rodents. They're continually crapping.

*If anyone is ever in need of some makeshift guinea pig contraception, condoms created for the japanese market are apparently a very close fit.

Guinea pigs need to eat their own crap anyway to recycle nutrients.

They should donate them to some hungry ecuadorians, they love to eat those glorified rats over there.

I hope they will find good homes for those poor guineas. Why do people have animals (and mind you, 300 of them) if they do not intend to treat them well?

Well there was a huge family of them in a place out of the weather with no predators and they obviously had acess to food and water plus all the sex they wanted so whats so bad about the way they were treated?

Living in a hole in the ground at the mercy of any passing toothy carnivore is more natural but I don't know about better.
