There's the not-just-poetry Poetry slam at Vollmond which might include some stand-up acts in English. Worth checking it out.

Hello all,
I'm going to spending 4-5 days in Munich in mid-July as part of a whirlwind European vacation. I've already been able to find quite a bit of info on bars, restaurants, events, and the like, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any comedy clubs that offer regular performances from standup acts or groups. Clubs with performances in English would of course be a bonus but I'm not holding my breath... Thanks!

The Poetry Slam Gong Show Open Mic has will be at Leon's this Thursday, no longer at Vollmond.
I'll be hosting the show tomorrow, my home stage is
Laff Stop Comedy Club I am one of the original Bosco's Sketch Comedy Troupe members and The Brassy Broads (all female stand up act) Since I left, management has changed hands, opened an Improv on I-10, I no longer have my finger on the pulse of comedy in the US but know peeps that do.
All English Stand up Show at the Bayerisherhof July 4th (this is not an open mic)
There will be an English Comedy Venue in Munich once a month at Substanz. the first show is Septemeber 5th PM me for the booking agent's details or see post made in calssified section of Toytown.
There is the Laffapalooza in Berlin.
Matt from Boston, you will get much more stage time in the UK, check out google for a search of clubs in London. Chortle will provied a list of open mic opportunities, but a lot of clubs shut down during the summer (?) so, I've been told. Contact The Laughing Horse, you'll need to send head shots & bio but will most likely secure a guest spot for yourself. There is an open stage comeptition in NYC in October if you want more details send me a PM
and the ha ha goes on...

He's not nearly as funny as Bully or Anke Engelke, IMHO.
I havent heard of him either. What sort of funny is he? Last time I tried listening to german comedy I didnt find it that interesting, but I will put it down to cultural unfamiliarity on my part.
Might be time to get back into it perhaps. Any suggestions? Names, types of humour and where to watch (ie, tv show, or live only) would be appreciated.

Ladykracher, Sat.1, Fridays, 22:15: Short comedy sketches, Anke Engelke does lots with a woman's perspective, but very funny in general.
Bully Parade, Pro 7, Mondays, 21:15: Short comedy sketches and parodies. Their Traumschiff Surprise is not to be missed.

No shed, but I spend my time at work and/or in an expat ghetto

No. I read a few web pages about 20th Century German culture, but I admit I tended to concentrate on the early, interesting part of the 20th Century, so it's possible I may have missed some details, like this guy.
Does he perform in German or English?

seems to be disabled here. Will check it out when I get home.

Michael Mittemaier is a Munich born comedian and probably the best male german comedian
(Anke Rules!)

I am sorry, but growing up on Monty Python, Benny Hill, Kenny Everett, the Two Ronnies, etc, I don't find Anke Engelke so good ! I have to refer back to the recent poll, the Brits are just the funniest nation !

Half the people you named are dead Pepper. Less comedy by dead guys is what I say.

MM performs in German with a abvarian accent (not really dialekt) . He is the best stand-up in Germany. He even beats Anka (she is better at sketches)

Anke steals a lot of her sketches for Ladykracher from that Smack the Pony! Boooooh

By putting Black Adder in a list of "recent" comedy programs, you are giving yourself a fair range of... oh... 20 years.

Hey! at that comment about dead comics I must say Bill Hicks is the king! He started doing stand up in Houston, Texas however he was a bigger star in the UK than at home is the States. He died 10 years ago and will always be my favorite.
"Christians wear crosses. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see another F _ _ _ Kin' cross?" Bill Hicks
and then there is Jim Patterson who died in April of this year
"an Indian giver is described as someone that gives you something and then takes it back. Shouldn't it be they give you something and you take every F _ _ _ king thing they own"
Jim Patterson
all the good ones are dead.

Fair comment.
Come to think of it, none of the stuff I mentioned is really likely to be internationally successful.
Actually, the internationally successful stuff like Benny Hill and Mr Bean annoys
the hell out of me.

I still consider the Lumber Jack sketch by Monte Python to one of my all time favorties.
One year for Halloween our neighbor dressed up as a lumberjack. tight jeans, work boots, flanel shirt opened just enought to reveal his lacy bra. The best part of it, he's a super conservative real estate attorney who left for the office each morning sporting a bolwer hat.
