Kindergeld form question - Germany

Hi,
Could anyone help me with the translation below, its a question on a kindergeld form,
i understand the first bit (i think!)
have you or your spouse of the named child in the last five years, then i'm lost

sind oder waren Sie, ihr ehegatte oder eine andere person, zu der die unter 4 eingetragenen kinder in einem kindschaftsverhältnis stehen, in den letzten funf jahren vor dieser antragstellung

ausserhalb deutschlands als arbeitnehmer, selbständige, entwicklungshelfer oder anderweitig tätig

The last bit is easy enough for me to have a go at:

outside of Germany as employee, self-employed, "development helper" [s](stay-at-home parent, maybe?)[/s] (humanitarian worker) or otherwise employed

grampus basically did the job, remains the Kindschaftsverhaeltnis, or kind of parental mandate (in kind of ward). Maybe it helps to dissect the famous German art of building sentences:

sind oder waren Sie
ausserhalb deutschlands tätig
= were or are you working outside Germany?

sind oder waren Sie
ausserhalb deutschlands als arbeitnehmer, selbständige, entwicklungshelfer oder anderweitig tätig

= did you work outside the Holy Empire as salaried employee, on your own account (self-employed), as development aide, or otherwise?

sind oder waren Sie
in den letzten funf jahren vor dieser antragstellung
ausserhalb deutschlands als arbeitnehmer, selbständige, entwicklungshelfer oder anderweitig tätig

= did you, during the five years preceding the filing of this application, work outside the German Empire as salaried employee, on your own account, as development aide, or otherwise?

ihr ehegatte oder eine andere person, zu der die unter 4 eingetragenen kinder in einem kindschaftsverhältnis stehen

= your spouse or another person executing parental duties on the children named under [Paragraph] 4

So all stitched together yields:

"are you or did you, or your spouse or another person executing parental duties upon the children named under [Paragraph] 4, during the five years preceding the filing of this application, (take on) work/ing outside Germany either as salaried employee, on your own account, as development aide, or otherwise?"

Just for your information, the kindergeld forms are available in English. I usually get sent them in English, although it is a bit hit and miss. If you have real trouble understanding the German ones you could request that they send you the English version.
