Questions regarding health insurance

Please help

vinaybar
Ok guys,I am a student in the University of Bonn and have a health insurance with Hamburg Meunchener.I need to visit a skin specialist and I have the following doubts:

1-Do I have to pay anything to the doctor other than the 10 euro fee?
2-I heard that the insurance does not cover private practitioners. How do I find that out?
3-Do I need to always take an appointment and visit the doctor?
LeonG
1. No
2. Ask your insurance
3. You can show up in their office and ask if they have time to see you now and their receptionist can say yes you can or they can say no, make an appointment.

1. Maybe. Depends on the insurance. Some require you to pay up front and claim it back later. Check the policy or ask them

Thanks guys.Just one more doubt, how do I know whether a doctor is a private practitioner or not?

Vinaybar, that's not a doubt, that's a question.

Not much help to you sure, but I'm trying to change that doubt/question thing one Indian at a time.

Do you have public or private insurance?

Hamburg Münchener is a gesetzliche Krankenkasse, so you need to find a doc authorized by the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung (kind of association of doctors approved by the public health insurance), in short holding a Kassenzulassung. Most doctors are sailing in the Kassenboat, only a few high-priced specialists operate without this steady and convenient income stream. You should have received a small plastic card (the Versichertenkarte) which you show at the doc's and he will get the money directly from the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung; your part is only the 10 EUR per quarter. Sometimes, however, some docs like to beef up their meager income with private billing, which usually you don't have to accept.

Private practitioners typically don't have the authorization of the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung and so no public health insurance is allowed to pay for their services.

In answer to the last one about how do you know if the doctor is a private practictioner or not, just ask when you make the appointment. I recently had a similar problem with a specialist and I basically phoned a few different practices and told them who my insurance company was and if they were only for privately insured people they just said so on the phone, then I tried the next one and so on until I found one that accepted my insurance.
