What to do about missing three days of school - Germany

Christmas holiday flight already booked

I am going to go to the States for christmas but not sure what to do. I will miss 3 days off school. When I had to go to see my grandparents i had to miss two days off school. I told my headteacher and he even said have a good time. But it will be the middle of the school year. So do i pretend i am sick or do I say I am going to the States?
HEM
Attending school is mandatory for those of school age here. Authorities clamp down on those who go off a few days early on vacation or return a few days late (because the air fares may be cheaper).

So do i pretend i am sick
If they catch you at Munich airport you are going to be in difficulties are you not?

or do I say I am going to the States?
Say to whom?

We have on occasions taken our eldest child (when he was of school age) off for single days to visit relatives in UK. We got the OK in WRITING from the Schuledirektor well in advance.....

Honesty is usually the best policy.

To the headteacher
HEM
That (verbally) wont help you when it comes to a discussion will it?

i meant do i officially ask him to let me go? the problem is if he says no. the tickets are alredy booked
EnglishBav
Explain to him that you are sorry you didn't ask before booking your tickets. If he still says no then you'll have to weigh up the pros and cons. Why did you book before asking? You might be worrying about nothing so get it over with soon.

Wouldn't you need a doctor's note if you miss 3 days of school? Unless you know a doctor who will lie for you, this excuse won't work.

Why are you handling all this by yourself, anyway? Can't your parents talk to the headteacher and explain? (Why were the tickets booked for such an inconvenient time? That wasn't very smart.)

Anyway, your headteacher seems to have been an understanding person before. Maybe if you offered to do extra homework to make up for the days you are going to miss?

Say you have to go for 'family reasons' the school is allowed to give time off for that. Don't describe it as a holiday. But you should always ask for permission first in case there is anything particularly important, such as a class test, planned during those days.

Are we talking about an international school or german schule? Either way, they should understand based on your expat status. Be honest and explain your situation, i'm sure they will 'try' to accomodate you. If not, then live and learn and lie next time.

my school is private but it is a german school. They dont give us homework because we have a arbietsstunde. My dad booked the flights because they were a lot cheaper, if i stayed to the last day of school it would have meant flying on my birthday. My parents and me are thinking of the best way to do it.

Pardon my asking, but if your profile is accurate, you're 15 years old (at most). Why are you discussing this with complete strangers on a random forum instead of with your parents? If your dad booked the flights, let him deal with the repercussions.

I was thinking the same. YOur parents need to be the ones handling the situation. And lying is only going to get you kicked out of the school.

Agreed! But your folks should be informing the teacher of your travel dates. To lie or hide any of this is preposterous, your visiting family who live far away!
