White Christmas break

Anyone have any recommendations for destinations

CK11
Dear TTers,
My sister and I have decided to celebrate a white Christmas this year (an alternative to the usual pilgrimage home to Australia). We are trying to find the perfect destination for 4-5 days (preferably not in Germany or France as this is where we live - although not ruled out entirely).
We are looking for a place that has the following:
-Snow
-Hotel or B&B accommodation that is 3+ stars (preferably on the upper end of the scale)
-Activities not restricted to skiing
Any recommendations?
We are looking into a Swiss Christmas break that includes the Glacier Express - anyone have any feedback on this?
Thanks in advance!

Budget? How about Scandanavia?
Owain Glyndwr
somewhere in the Rockies? Banff?

edit: probably too far for 4-5 days so scratch that.

Budget is flexible...Our range would be something like the following...
Flights should not be more than 500 EUR.
Amount willing to be paid for hotel is dependant on the quality of the hotel - but we would draw the line at anything more than 300 EUR per night.

Lapland?
Owain Glyndwr
Südtirol?
Allershausen
Surely anywhere in the Austrian or Swiss alps would do. Obviously they are geared up for skiing but there's usualy plenty of nice hotels that cater for the whole "wellness" thing, like this one: Alpenrose Lechtal. I went there with a company I was working for, in fact the secretary from the company married the owners son, and it was very nice. Not cheap mind.

remember its going to be quite dark in Northern Scandinavia at Xmas, although obviously the snow makes it seem lighter

You could take the Glacier Express from Chur to St. Moritz, takes about 2 h, see timetable. Davos is not directly on the route, but would be a possibility to stay. It doesn't have a villagy character, but rather is an interesting town in the mountains with lots of activities besides skiing (walks, open air ice rink, shops, Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner museum etc.). If you travel towards St. Moritz, I recommend not staying in St. Moritz, which is the height of snobbishness and too urban for my taste, but rather in one of the smaller villages nearby (good bus connections). I stayed in Pontresina, a ski resort with typical sgraffito painted houses. I chose the La Collina Hotel, whose cuisine was really good, but that was some years ago and there's a variety of hotels. From St. Moritz, an interesting scenic day trip would be to take the Bernina Express which traverses the Bernina mountain pass to Tirano, an old town in Italy.

Thanks all!
Glacier Express is looking like the final choice.
Have a great Friday and Weekend!

Here's the official Swiss tourism site MySwitzerland.com for further info. Have a great trip (and lots of snow)!

With the economic situation as it is I would have thought the obvious destination would be Iceland?

i am looking for birthday weekend suggestions, something like what the OP posted. the place Allershausen seemed ideal - 4 nights with a ski area nearby for some boarding, maybe a massage or two. any other tips out there from folks?
