Hi guys
We've been living in Frankfurt for a few months now (me, my wife and a 11 month old charming girl). This is my first post, so before asking anything, I would first like to say a big THANK YOU to all the advice and information we have "received" so far. There are many posts that we found so so useful; our settling-in would have been much more difficult, if not for TT.
Now, on the topic of this little one who is about to turn one: my wife and I are very keen to get her a formal dress for her first birthday bash. What we are looking for is probably something like a wedding gown or a dress that's just as elegant.
We've looked at many stores in the Zeil and shopping areas in NordWestZentrum. The dresses are designed for older girls (and our little one is actually a bit on the smaller side). Either that or they are just not grand enough. Obviously, we haven't looked in every store, and time is now running short.
Would someone be able to suggest stores that are likely to stock dresses like these? We would be very grateful for any advice we get.
Thanks!!
Kay

Welcome to TT. Did you know there was a 'Jules Winnfield' on the forum already? We'll have to watch out for that space or no space in the username.
Am not in Frankfurt so can't answer your question, sorry, but I'm sure someone local will be along shortly.

Thanks a lot, Kay!
I was actually surprised to see that JulesWinnfield was available; thought there'd be more Pulp Fiction fans here
And, I only noticed now that spaces are allowed! Oh well, I hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes or infringing copyrights - Jules Winnfield, I am!

You could organise a duel to decide which one gets to keep the name.

If you really struggle to find something, I would recommend ordering something from the UK there are plenty of nice stores that deliver and have lovely things for kids, I only ever go shopping now in Germany if I really have to, you could also try amazon, they are now doing clothes and the stuff is all from different stores and brands..reasonable priced too.
If you need any more info just let me know
Happy shopping.

Have you looked at the many bridal stores that are in town? Along the Berliner strasse mainly. Peek and Cloppenburg have a huge formal gown section, so you might ask them where would be a good place to go. If you want to hand out some cash, why not have one made for you. There are plenty of tailors in town that will design a dress for you, fitting whatever criteria you want.
Just as a question. I have never heard of something like this, dressing up a child in a formal outfit for their birthday. Is this a tradition from somewhere?
Guess I am from the school of: give your kid a whole little cake to eat on the first birthday, making sure you take lots of photos as they dig in, making sure you stip them down to just a diaper first.
Oh, and welcome to Frankfurt. It is a great city so I hope you enjoy it here.

Kinderhaus Pfueller has some nice dresses. You could also check with google which stores sell Catimini, Jean Bourget or Cacharel in Frankfurt. Good Luck!

Exackerly. For a moment I thought this was in the "Please Help Me" thread.

Doesn't Zara have kids clothes? At this time of year they must have fancy party dresses.

@Everybody: Wow! That's lots of great advice... Thanks, will let you know how I am getting along.
@Mistress Kitty, g24: Will definitely look online. A bit skeptical about sizes and fitting, but the wife is a huge fan of Next and M&S, since we used to be living in the UK before.
@Moondancer: Next stop, Berlinerstrasse! Thanks for the tip. We are originally from India, and the first birthday is a very big deal. This is actually party #1 we are doing at ffm. Party#2 is gonna be at a larger scale back home in India. The invitee's list for this one is just about touching 100. And we felt the big fat greek wedding wasn't that big or fat, after all. ;-)
@Timmeh, Punchbear: Oh well, what can I say. TT said, username available, and I just took it!
@marie-claire: Thanks for the brand names!
