Hello Everyone,
I'm new here in München and would like to meet some local musicians, and figure out some of the logistics around thee here parts. For instance, how much is the going rate for say, a standing solo piano gig? I have no idea what to charge!
Back in Seattle the answer would be "not much", but that's why I left!
What would be really great is if someone could point me to a local music agency. I already have a guy in Dänmark, but I don't want to spend so much time there.
So here's my deal: I'm a classically trained pianist, I have a BM from Cornish College of the Arts, And I'm looking for some nice places to play while I practice for Masters program auditions here in Deutschland.
Any way, if yo have any pleas, please let me know!

Hi and Welcome
All good questions and the same I had to ask when I arrived 10 years ago. As for the 'going rate', it depends on what you are doing, where you are doing it and for how long. Piano Bar at Bayerischer Hof pays 250 euro for a duo, playing 3 sets, 7-10pm. Baby grand piano is there is small (poor) speaker to plug a vocal mic into. The booker is Katarina Emhki, but the club is booked months in advance (piano bar often 6 months or more in advance). It is one of the few club gigs in town where you get a 'guarantee' - most others are based upon eintritt/the door (and until you have a following in town, well, I'm sure you know what you went through in Seattle, until you developed a fan base). Unless you have a name as a solo artist (with CDs and airplay), then the place to make money is at cover gigs. My experience is that Jazz bands tend to make less money than party/dance bands, so you can expect approximately 300 euro for private party. However, if you work with a top level, established 'gala' band (or other working party/dance band), you should get 350 / 400 euro. Sometimes more (but not very often).
Hope that helps! And good luck. You are welcome to contact me if you have more questions.
Cheers

If you want to give a classical piano concert, one venue to consider is the Steinway house in Laim. The price for the room includes the piano (Steinway concert grand) and tuning and although the location is not central, the rooms themselves are nice. I've been to a couple of concerts there.

Erin- Thanks for the nice message and the good advice. It sound like you keep yourself busy- I hope it has been worth the move for you!
Bron- hey thanks, I'll look them up, if just to go see some locals perform!
Does anyone know of places with pianos remotely close to Maxvorstadt? I've been trying to keep my eye out, but I haven't found too many options.

Another performance and practice venue located in the pedestrian zone in the centre of Munich(there are links to it on other threads too):
http://www.movimento-muenchen.de/
They have three rooms, each with a piano and can be hired by the hour. The bigger room is suitable for concerts, in fact the TT Orchestra had their summer concert there. Rates vary as to when and what you want it for, so the best bet is to call them.
