Interesting yet not surprising. Funny that it doesn't mention the country's boozing problem!! Drinking 10 pints a day doesn't make you thin - that's for sure!

Also, the parks are empty these days. There are more dogs there than kids, and I was back there during the school summer holidays! No wonder everyone's expanding. I'm not an old timer yet but you go back 15 years and EVERYONE was playing footy or something be it evenings, weekends or whatever. British kids just don't move anymore.

Chinook airlift is being considered.

SO, the lefties successfully banned 'competition' from the school curriculum.

no competition => no sports
no sports => no exercise
no exercise => bad health
bad health => obesity

You get what you ask for.

Meanwhile, sensible parents ensure their children exercise daily, have a healthy diet, and restrict access to the Television and other sedentary forms of amusement. The children of sensible parents aren't obese, are generally healthy, and also do better in school (a healthy mind needs a healthy body). So, the children of sensible parents end up being more successful as adults. They get better jobs, and are healthier later in life. They end up supporting the indolent masses of couch potatoes who prefer to complain about how 'other people' have it better than they do.

The indolent masses complain life isn't fair, they whine about their small house, and broken down car, and crappy McJob. They sit on the couch, staring at NASCAR and Britney Spears while munching away at pre-processed food laden with too much salt, artificial colors and preservatives, and all kinds of other disgusting additives. They usually smoke too.

Moral of the story:
Life is not fair.
Competition is natural
Sport in school should be compulsory.
Obesity is inexcusable (in all but a very, very small percentage of the population)

What? I thought it was.

sport in school is/was crap
Whilst this certainly was true in my time (I hate team sports & was 29 before I found "my" sport - not that I expect schools to provide gliding) if there was real support & interest maybe staff/parents would be motivated to provide something outside of football/rugby etc..

What? I thought it was.
Maybe things have changed (not necessarily for the better) since our days at school

You mean like this or just this (or this)? Surely not.

I know that in my nephew's school the teachers are no longer permitted (by their union) to take extra-curricular activities, such as sports, outside school hours or on weekends. Result: only the mainstream team sports are played, during games times only, and the teachers only have time to focus on the good players.

I was a good athlete in school, but I never would have been under these conditions, without the dedication of teachers willing to take sports during their own time, and bring mediocre talents up to the top level.

We had a double period of Sports at least twice a week and a single period of Gym every day when we didn't have sports. Do they still have school sports days in the UK, where you compete against every one in your school/year & then the winners go on to the inter school competitions?

@Lorelei
Probably it would be like the last picture link you posted if they load him too far forward.
The Chinook was mentioned on Capital radio news this morning in this, the most exciting city
in the world, especially now that red knunt ken has gone and Boris is in charge and of course
it is only gonna get better with the runup to the Olympics.
I think they should have an obese olympics. That could be fun to watch, especially the pole vault and the high diving.
The audience would get soaked.

that's true. But it's still important that children get to do sports.

Did you forget to add a link?

Sports and PE are pretty important in the school district where I live (lots of state championships and a huge booster club helps), but a lot of financially strapped school districts in the US are literally faced with cutting gym time or cutting academics.

Especially the school districts with a lot of conservative seniors who vote down every referendum for a property tax hike to benefit the schools, because they think the kids should just go outside and roll a hoop like they did when they were kids.

Smitty you're right. I think we should gas poor people. They all smell.
