hi there
we are very possibly moving to mannheim in the next few months...i was looking for some info from expats who live there which school they send their children to? we are currently in qatar ( middle east ) but desperate to get out and back to civilisation!! we are british expats and at the moment my son is being schooled in a private british curriculum school and as he is only 5 and in year 1, this concerns me alot about his schooling as i know everything else like housing etc should be pretty straight forward, please can someone give me some insight into mannheim and your experiences with the schools, transport etc...thanks for your time xx

Try the search function and you will find some info on
schools in the Heidelberg/Mannheim area. They are not cheap but if your employer is paying then you won't need to worry. Most expats with families choose to live outside of Mannheim in the suburbs. There are topics on this you will find by searching for
Mannheim and
Heidelberg. Some people choose to live in the Heidelberg area and commute to Mannheim. If you live in the suburbs then most folks drive and the road system here is generally very good but traffic through towns can be slow during rush hour.

i'd send your kid to a german school. at that age, he'll pick up on the language quite quickly. only down-side is that schools are only half day so you'll have to find someone to look after him in the afternoon if you want to work full time.

The Heidelberg International School follows the IB curriculum and has English as its official language.
HD is not too far from Mannheim, specially if you live anywhere close the OEG tram Line 5, which links the two cities and has a stop right next to the school.
