Find my way around Hamburg

Coming to Hamburg on many visits...

Claire81
Hey there,

I'm coming on many trips to Hamburg to visit my boyfriend ... so on these visits I thought I'd take the opportunity whilst he's working in the week days to find my way around Hamburg and try to learn to speak German ... as he's learning very quickly!

If there's anyone who wants to walk around the city and help me to learn German let me know!!
Thanks!

...or meet up for a coffee ...I can manage to order that!
Would just like to get to know the city and explore a little, and find my way around on the U-Bahn. Not coming next until November in the first week.

Also I've been trying to look around for the answer but have been unsuccessful ... Does Germany celebrate Guy Fawkes/or have Bonfire night? I've been told no, but are there any celebrations like that or similar?

Some expats might, but why would the Germans Celebrate an ENGLISH/UK Holiday?
No, there is nothing like that celebrated here. Have a history read - here

They did though notoriously burn it down of course - 27.2.33. Nobody believes the Dutch simpleton convicted of it actually did it.

I asked if there are any celebrations in Germany only as I've heard from my Canadian friend that they have fireworks/bonfires there I think it was the Newfoundland maybe, but ..also some celebrations in New Zealand, along with other places where there are many British colonies!

I asked if there are any celebrations in Germany..
You should be here on New Year's Eve then.......

Thanks for the history Darkknight..

found this too on Wiki.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night

It was just something I wasn't sure of as Halloween is traditionally a Gaelic festival in Old Irish times, yet its celebrated in most countries ... so my thought about Bonfire night was similar to that.. if it's celebrated in other countries too
