Irish filmmaker stabbed by masked teens in Berlin

The Local
A 57-year-old Irish filmmaker was stabbed in an attempted robbery by three masked teenagers during an evening stroll in Berlin's Schöneberg district, police confirmed to The Local on Friday.

Martin Duffy, who lives in Berlin with his German wife, was out for a walk around 8:30 pm on Thursday in his neighbourhood, when the youths approached from behind on Haberlandstrasse and demanded money, police spokesperson Sarah Wachholz said.

"A scuffle ensued and he was stabbed in the belly," Wachholz said. "Remarkably he didn't realise he had been stabbed until after he arrived back at his nearby home."

Resisting an armed robbery is rather brave but it is one of the best ways to meet an untimely end. Handing over a couple of Euros may be less dignified but it raises the chances of getting home safe and sound.

The best thing to do in these situations is to stab your attacker in the face. Best way to mark them and also send a message to their pals that we are not all saps. I wish Martin a speedy recovery and keep in mind, never let yourself be mastered by bastards.

I totally agree with you Hal. A simple house key can be used in this way as self defense. As long as you do not go beyond the necessary force needed to defend yourself, you do not get into trouble for defending yourself. Well done Martin and a speedy recovery. I hope you managed to get a nice few slaps into them and they at least have a few bruises and black eyes.

That's the spirit: "No no, 'tis just a scratch!"

Bully to you, Martin, and get well soon.

Gute Besserung! I've seen this in Dublin a few times - one time a Chinese teenager was set upon by a gang of racist teenage skangers who started punching, but then every other person on the street within a hundred metre radius descended on the gang, and beat the crap out of them.
Also the guy who drove his car at speed down Henry street, knocking down and injuring people, was hauled from the driver seat by ordinary members of the public and they kicked the shit out of him. Can be dangerous though! Get better soon, Martin.

I saw that.. car thing the Garda had to protect him from getting lynched...
