Seeking your recommendations for a favorite day excursions in and around Bad Wurttemberg/Stuttgart area w/n one hour drive. We are new and have found a great sitter for our preschoolers one Saturday a month. We'd like a leisurely day with some sights, lunch, shopping, festivals, flea markets, special Saturday events while enjoying the area and some much deserved time without responsiblities of parenting. Any spa or therme bath suggestions also appreciated! Your recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I Thanks

Freiburg, Triburg, Ludwigsburg, Heidelburg, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber are all nice day trips. Freiburg and Triburg are in the Black Forest. Ludwigsburg is very close, has a nice shopping area and the Castle which provides English tours. Depending on where you live Heidelburg and Rothenburg are about 1 1/2 hour drive. The Bodensee is about 1 1/2 hour drive--Meersburg is very nice. Enjoy!

Tubingen is always the obvious one for me.. by train or car less than an hour. If you have the whole day then you could combine with Schloss Lichtenstein / NebenHoehle area for a walk. The cave ( Nebenhoehle ) is also really worth going in, takes about an hour and there is the best Maultaschen at the restaurant next to the entrance, even if you don't like Maultaschen like me! Also Metzingen is close by.. if you like mall shopping.
