Unpaid unfortunately

I am searching for 3 cameramen to assist in shooting a music video for a small artist in Berlin in approximately 1 months time.

The shoot will be for two days possibly in succession or split over two weekends and will be for approximately 3 hours per day.

It will be unpaid but you will be given full creditation so this may be a good opportunity for film students or people new to the industry to gain some experience and add to their portfolio or in fact anyone that would like to be involved and knows how to shoot.

This video will be shot on DV which is not my favourite medium but suited to this clip.

There is a possibility of this leading to more work with this and several other connected artists.

Just drop me an email with your details and tell me a bit about yourself and experience with film

LG,

Rusty

I understand the Artist is, 'small'. Is it Prince by any chance?

Great so you would fork out for 16mm or 35mm if you had the money but still not cash for Personale???

gain some experience
Do you mean the experience of working for nothing?

There is a possibility of this leading to more work
I always thought work was where a worker sells their labour and an employer buys it. Perhaps I'm confused... again.

It will be unpaid but you will be given full creditation
Brilliant! I often watch the credits after music videos which are so often shown on TV.

3 cameramen
Do you have something against women?

Making music videos for nothing is just for idiots. It is what MTV wants and to push Viacom profits. Anyone who takes part in this project is cutting their own throats.

A bit harsh there HAL9000? He'll undoubtedly receive plenty of interest, you know how young people here (and everywhere else) want to get a shoe in to something creative, and I think anyone asking for "camerapersons" would elicit more derision than they already had from you. And, I doubt very much whether this will make MTV if it's as crap as you are hinting at. 16mm or 35mm Mmmm, maybe in the eighties.
HAL9000
Not so harsh.

The employee contributes labour to the enterprise, in return for payment of wages. This is not the case so this post should be in the meetups for artists or the likes.

I was on a shoot last year where they used 16mm. HD isn't all it's cracked up to be. Some would say it is harsh and sterile. MTV (if you ever watch it) is dead. They will play any rubbish to fill in the spaces between their ads.

another example of a post getting ripped apart for no reason... will it ever end?
HAL9000
Well Fonz when this place changes it's name to, 'Hussledtown', it will end.

It's common practice in the no/lo budget film world to try to get crew and actors to contribute for free. Whether or not this counts as exploitation depends a lot on the financial set-up of the project, and what the different people are expected to put in and get out of it. I think the original poster has been fairly up-front in this case and it's up to potential respondents to decide whether it's for them or not. Hal, instead of making a reasoned argument about it, you've just gone through and slagged off every part of the ad, sometimes for no good reason.
Blue Cow
Hal9000 is just a sad and bitter twisted troll who gets a kick out of slagging most things off on Toytown just ignore him & laughing at him/her is the best thing to do

Not entirely agreeing with Hal (or the OP) but judging by the amount of "employment offered" ads we get whcih are NOT paid employment, maybe setting up a forum for unpaid/internship/experience based work could be an idea?

PLaying devils advocate, maybe the OP could at least offer a few beers in exchange for time. I've spent more time thatn 3 hours/2 weekends helping friends with projects over the last few months in exchange for drinks. Twas fun.

I'm with Hal on this. I've moved two different post out of "Employment offered" today because they were asking people to work for no pay, which is not "employment". It's just taking the mickey.

I don't think saying "oh, by the way, we won't pay you" gets you off the hook and makes it somehow OK. Neither does the usual "but it's normal in this industry". It's still not employment. You just want someone else's work for free.

"Services wanted" would also be more accurate. Or perhaps "voluntary work".

HD isn't all it's cracked up to be. Some would say it is harsh and sterile. HD is a broadcasting system, nothing to do with 16mm, 35mm or camera apparatus per se.
HAL9000
So I must be mistaken when people ask for HD Cam's??? I should just tell them it's a, 'system'. Thanks for the HeaDs up on that.

Steve, when you know what you are talking about give me a shout.

When you start thinking about the basic concept of employment be in touch.

Oh and Blue Cow should lick their wounds in a very tender fashion.

Thanks.

Hal9000. Do you understand the expression "per se"?

Don't be a rude muppet. I've been a video editor over 15 years. I'm assuming directors such as George Lucas, Michael Mann and others consider it good enough.

You'll be telling us all how much better your 8-track cartridge player sounds so much better than our CDs next.

And for anyone else reading this thread, head over to mandy.com to get an idea how often "jobs" such as the OP posted are the norm for any budding film/tv techies. I'm not saying it's right, it's just like it is.
HAL9000
I'm not saying it's right, it's just like it is.
Aye that's the way it is as muppets like you support it, ie. jobless jobs, 'per se'. I understand not your argument nor logic.
swimmer
Again, I agree with Hal. Nothing smart about saying a low-wage culture is OK.

The going rate for work in Berlin seems to be about 7 Eur an hour. So how much would this planned job cost, 3 people for 12 hours each? 280 Eur? Tax deductible to boot. And presumably will generate income. Sorry, but any "employer" can afford that. They can find ways (even personal cash if needed). It's absolute peanuts when setting up or running a business. A drop in the ocean.

Anyone who can't - but instead expects to take the work of others and use it without payment in order to further their own work - is not actually a "business" or "employer". Let's get real about that.
