Does anyone know if I can transfer my Canadian hunting and firearms licence in Germany?
Cheers,
George

I am not entirely sure, but I will tell you some things I do know...
I know in Germany you must pass a hunting exam, have a certificate of liability insurance specifically for hunters, no criminal record, and be trustworthy (quite similar to Canada). To own firearms you need to hold a "Waffenbesitzkarte" for each individual firearm you own. Also, I think the right to hunt in specific areas is determined by landowners.
Not sure who you might ask, but hopefully someone out there knows more than I do

thank you for the reply, we are moving to Munich in June 2010, just hoping I can just transfer my licences. I had to pass the exams here in Canada and I do have a poss. and acc licence for the firearms. Don't know who to ask if my licence are valid in Germany or I have to do it all over again.
thanks again,
George

Not possible to do.
You can't transfer a motorcycle licence, much less a hunting license that's a de facto firearms permit.
Doesn't work for fishing licenses, either.
Hunting and fishing are do-able in the UK, Sweden or Eastern Europe, where people aren't a bunch of grumpy killjoys.
Frankly, there isn't much at all to do around here, so brace yourself. Germany: Turning even the most cynical into homeland patriots in about five minutes.
