Ticket controllers being a pain - Munich

Checking tickets at 2:30 am on the tram

After finishing work at 2:30am, I decided to take the tram instead of taking a taxi. Now the trams were at this point the only available transportation at the time, it being a Thursday. Now I've hardly seen ticket controllers come on the U or Sbahn during working hours. But on this particular route came two people. They looked abosolutley normal, like they were just coming back from a hard night out but no they were there to check tickets.
Now folks, its 3am in the morning, we have drunk, tired people just wanting to get home or go to the next hot spot and these twats decide probably just for kicks to do their check.
For some the night ended out on a cold deserted tram stop being hit with a fine, for others like myself the journey continued. Talk about being harsh...

If they can buy beer to be drunk, they can buy a tram ticket I'm thinking

Well, for me they are not a pain. I am glad that MVV makes money by fining those people who don't bother buyng a ticket, rather than increasing the amount I pay every month for my ticket (they increase it anyway, but perhaps less).

They took the risk and lost.
I hope it's the worst thing that happens to them all year.

What next, feeling sorry for a drunk driver who gets pulled out of traffic before he kills an innocent bystander?

I have no problem that they check, that's their job but seriously 3am in the morning?

If it were known that they only checked during specific hours do you think many would buy a ticket at the times they do not check?

Being checked at any time is a pain - why would being 3am, make a difference?

They're doing the job they get paid to do.

Why not? You finish at 2:30 am and maybe they start at 2:30am. They're doing the job they get paid to do.

Just like you.

point indeed!

Look on the bright side - they probably earn premium rate for nightshift work, and therefore need to be more scrupulous to make sure they earn their money.

Why would any of those drunk people buy a ticket at night if no ticket controllers ever work at night? Using public service isn't free just because you're on the way to a bar or because you're drunk. They are doing their jobs, and likely they'd prefer working during the day as well.
By the way, I actually get checked for my ticket on the S-Bahn a lot more at night than during the day, because the S-Bahn security personnel also do that, and they seem to be on every other train at night while I hardly ever encounter regular ticket inspectors on the S-Bahn at other times of day.

Notably NOT bitching about the staff out there driving the actual tram at 2.30am in the morning! They were clearly not "being a pain".

I personally would be more at ease knowing that I'm on a tram with a shitload of drunks at 3:00 am and the people in an authoritarian position were also there. Hhmm, no brainer for me. But I always get a ticket eiither way.

Witzig, I have a bad rep now by just saying what happened on the tram. I only thought it was an odd time to check tickets, that was it. Ive never seen it done in Berlin before and the city is known for its party life.
Im glad that the mvg and actually all the ticket controllers + workers in Germany are out there, doing their job. Bringing passengers to their destinations, protecting guests during their trip, serving people. I know that its not an easy job.
Sorry if I offended anybody.

"They looked abosolutley normal"

that cracked me up

No, you bitched about it, that's what got you the bad rep.

I doubt that these guys get a kick out of checking drunks at 3 am, and I don't consider it harsh if they do their job at that time.

Presumably, if you had said: "I was surprised to see inspectors checking tickets at the god-awful time of 3 ack emma where most passengers are drunk or asleep" the reactions would have been much less negative.
