Where to live in NRW

Hello there, i am Married to a germany from Monhiem,( between Dusseldorf and Koln) He moved to America 5 years ago, to make a long story short i kind of want to move to germany for him cause we are visiting now and i can see how home sick he is and how much his family misses him. He has a pretty big fam.
So we dont want to be too close to the fam (cause some are quite nutty) but not too far. Where is a nice place to live? I like langenfiel but feel that Dusseldorf, Kolon, and in betwwen is quite industrial looking and we want to live in the country that isnt too far from the city and schools and church (20 min or so). Any advice for a 2,500 income that should grow in about 3 months of living here if we decide to? Should frankfurt be an option? I love trees and nature and so does my hubby. Any help would be awesome....and i would have to search some english speaking christian churches as well in that area, whatever it may be. Thanks again!!!

i forgot to add that it would be ideal to have a house with a backyard, probably asking for too much but you never know.

Look in the Kreis Mettman area - Velbert, Mettman, Heiligenhaus etc - nicer more country-ish areas there and some not too pricey and good location too - easy for Dus/Koln/Rurhgebiet etc.

If you drew a triangle from Duss to Essen to Wuppertal that's the sort of area it would be.

Remember that house sizes are done by square metres or by room number (inc living rooms) not just no of bedrooms.

Also - you may well find you need a kitchen - look out for EBK - einbaukuche which means there is already a fitted kitchen.

NBK - nebenkosten are the local/house taxes you need to pay - if the rent is kalt they won't be included - if it's listed as warm they will be.

ps - you'll prob find the further north you go the cheaper things will be - even near Essen you're only 1hour from Koln.

you didn't mention whether you have kids or not (although you did mention schools - is that forward planning or 'real time')
