Return policy at Metro - Germany

Do consumer return policies apply?

Does anyone know if Metro honors the return policies (Wiederrufrecht) that apply for regular consumers? As Metro is only available to business owners, I am worried that they do not have to honor the return for any reason policy within 30 days. I will eventually have to call them on it but I wanted to find out if anyone else here with a Metro card has returned non-food items like a coffee machine.

TIA
JeffZ
The statutory 30-day return policy only applies to mail order, not to things bought in shops. If a shop offers a return policy, it's strictly good will.

Having said that, if it's defective, they have to exchange it.

Took a laptop back to Metro in Bremen, about 3 weeks after purchase. Said the 'customer' :-)) had changed their mind. No probs whatsoever with a cash refund, even although I had paid with credit card. But as above, I believe this was good-will.

Thanks poppet. Did you open and use the laptop or was it still sealed?

I have seen where they sell off stuff, with some percent discount, that has been returned. And, yes, they had been opened.

yep, Jeffz is 100% correct. You have no legal right to return non-defective goods in Germany if they were purchased in a store. Any return policies are simply good will and you can't rely on other peoples' experiences being replicated.

Laptop had been opened and used. But obviously I wiped the drive - data.

I have a metro card and I have returned things before that I have opened, I didn't use it because as soon as I opened it i knew it was the wrong thing I bought, but still they will accept it.

We've returned quite a bit of stuff (satellite receivers, DVD players, TVs etc) to Metro for refund or repair. Not a problem at all. They are very kulant, as the Germans say.

Moral of this thread: don't buy electrical goods from Metro as a lot of it seems to be faulty.
medic82
no not really faulty, I just had a change of heart, or found something cheaper the next day lol.

Thanks for all the replies. Why I want to return something is my business. I simply want to know how Metro is in this respect considering as they cater solely to businesses.

I just remembered: My daughter bought a small TV. There was something wrong with a pixel which irritated my daughter. We bought it back and exchanged it with no bother.

I exchanged a shredder that died after 20 minutes of use. The guy at Kundenservice tried to shred a piece of paper - by gum, it didn't work!
The replacement shredder is just fine and dandy. Above guy said I must have got the 1 in 250 that's defective.
