Knitting, yarn, needlework shops in Cologne

Anyone know any (good ones) ?

kristiina
Hi,

I am going through an active nest building period and am therefore interested in tips for shopping knitting supplies - wool, yarn, needles... Has anyone come across any such shops/departments in Cologne?

Thanks in advance,
Kristiina

No, but if I remember tomorrow, I'll ask one of my students (if she's there). She's into her knitting and perhaps could advise.

All the best,

I'm sure you will find some of what you want in Kaufhof.

If you are happy with online shopping try this site

Hi,

My student buys all of her stuff in Schildgen, just outside Cologne so that doesn't help you much. My girlfriend also suggested Kaufhof plus she also said that at the side of Peek and Cloppenburg - the side with the Woyton - there used to be a good shop there somewhere. Not sure if it's still there though.

There is a great knitting store in Cologne - Maschenkunst is the name. The owner is Daniella Johansenova and she is wonderful. She is fluent in English (and a few other languages). The store it great with lots of selection and on Fridays they have a group knitting night, lots of very nice people. I took a class there and I think Daniela offers classes regularly.

Here are the details

There is another yarn shop called Casa Lana which is in the Opern passage near Appelhofplatz. Once a month an English speaking group meets there to knit together.

Hi, I just moved to Köln this week, and there is an active local knitting community here, be sure to check local groups in ravelry (ravelry.com is a worldwide knitting website). I will be attending Kneipestricken http://www.ravelry.com/groups/kneipenstricken which is a pub knitting group started by some friends of mine, pretty much everyone speaks english.

Ravelry also lists local yarn shops based on zip code, they suggest both Machenkunst and Frechener Wolloase outside of Köln http://www.frechener-wolloase.de/

Hope that helps and happy knitting!
