Ghostwriters' auditions for Sarah Palin's book

Bill Maher's take on her memoir

ShaggyMame
A friend of mine just sent me this link to a bit from the last episode of Real Time, where Bill Maher took on Palin's newly released memoir "Going Rogue" ("not out yet, it's being translated into English") and showcased the 'auditions' by a few famous ghostwriters, before settling for Lynn Vincent.

Among them: Maurice Sendak's "Where The Wild Things Are Shot From Helicopters", Judy Blume's "Are You There Russia? It's Me, Dipshit", Norman Vincent Peale with "The Power of Positively Not Thinking" and "Extremely Low Expectations" by Charles Dickens. Somebody else already chipped in with C.S. Lewis "The Lyin' Bitch and the Wardrobe". Anybody?

By the way, doesn't the cover remind you of the poster of 40-Year-Old-Virgin? It's kind of goofy.

my favorite is jane austen- 'snide and prejudiced', but how about dostoyevsky- 'the idiot'?

and she looks more than goofy on the cover. she looks 'special'.
this woman has set american feminism back 20 years. it's scary to see that the damn book is #1 on amazon sales rank.

I think it's weird, since the philosophy of a big chunk of her fans is this:

I wouldn't buy it, but I'd be interested in coloring in some excerpts.

Damn it!

Sorry, Shaggy. I meant to give you a positive for that post. It had me rolling. LOL

Any way I can undo that, EB?
ShaggyMame
you mean the "reading is for faggots" one? my pleasure.

Can you explain this remark? I've heard it repeatedly since she came to national prominence last year and I never really understood how she was able to do this. What does it mean exactly to "set American Feminism back 20 (or sometimes 30) years?
moctoj2
sanwald...OMG. Just look up the word feminism and then think of the opposite. That's Palin in a nutshell...pun intended.

palin represents everything women hoped was not true anymore, like having to be "hot" to get what we want or having to define ourselves as mothers over everything else. she is the most unqualified politician, and she who only got her job because the boss liked her and she opposes everything that feminism has been fighting for, like equality and reproductive rights. the only thing this woman promotes is her own advancement, and people keep rewarding her for it.
Sanwald
I get it now.

You believe she has set feminism back because she's hotter than you and has different political views.
Dafydd
Excellent. Can we hijack this into an anti feminist thread?

Hmmm. while I do not agree that she has set American feminism back 20 years (because I would never give her that much credit), I do think it is scary how many people are interested in her. I think (perhaps) that many American woman (and men?) identify with her because she is just your "normal all American hockey mom" or however she puts it. They find her refreshingly normal, which is not the case at all because she is a celebrity... a conservative one.
