Gynaecologist referral for curettage - Munich

Which clinics in Munich perform this procedure?

HI All,

Please read completely before misunderstanding and posting some non related comments.

We are currently going through a very tough phase; my pregnant wife is diagnosed as miscarriage and referred to abortion in German the process is called as Abrasio.

I need help from any one who knows any clinic or hospital who does this. Problem is our Gynaecologist contacted some and the earliest termin we got is next Friday 9th October, but it would be nice if we can get an appointment on Monday or earliest possible.

We are feeling sad and at the same time I don’t want it to be dangerous for my wife waiting with this uncertain stage.

Please pardon my English language mistakes, and I thank all of you in advance, please guide me through proper direction.

Regards

Just so you have it in English, the suggested procedure appears to be a D&C.

Germany has some pretty stringent rules on this compared to other nations, so you'd be wise to ensure you're fully compliant.

Terrible situation; I sincerely hope that you and your wife recover and move forward.

First off, I'm sorry for your loss. That must be an awful experience to go through.

Googling found me this website: http://www.krankenhaus.de/

There you can find a hospital doing a specific procedure in your area. The German word you are looking for is 'Ausschabung' or 'Kürettage'.
The way you find a hospital on there is by clicking on 'Kliniken suchen' --> Nach Behandlungswunsch.

Then you pick 'Unterleib / Becken / Hüfte'. Then 'weibl. Geschlechtsorgane'. Then you click on 'Fehlgeburt , Ausschabung'. Then enter your zip code in the field where it says PLZ (or just type in Munich), and click on 'Suche starten' at the bottom. That will give you a list of the hospitals that perform this procedure.

I hope this helps. Good luck, I hope you can get an earlier appointment and all the best for you and your wife.

embryonal mole, this is the actual medical term of the current status. And its the reason why she referred for the said process.

Thank you very much Mariposa, its a great help from you. I was really confused what to search for and now you solved it. I will call all of them and see when I can get an appointment. But are they all trust worthy and has good reputation?

Expacticus, you are spot on with respect to the English term. Thanks. Well we did not opt for it, only after getting a third opinion the Gyanecologist gave an ueberweisung, normally they refer to a kilinik but that doctor is in Urlaub right now. So compliant in sense do you mean the isnurance wont cover it? This is true if we opt it ourself for unwanted pregnancy. But any way lets see.

I meant compliant in the sense that abortion laws in Germany are more stringent than in the US, UK and many other places.

On the insurance side, there is a slight concern,

Abortions are not covered by public health insurance except for women with low income.
but you clearly have a valid medical diagnosis, so I wouldn't worry about that.

jackal, I'm so sorry to read about your situation. The exact same thing happened to me, and my own doctor performed the procedure at Paracelsus Klinik in Mozartstrasse:

Dr. Wolfram Krauss
Prinzregentenplatz 15
81675 Munich
tel: 089.41951590

There were absolutely no insurance issues on my public insurance. I would also seek to have the procedure done with as little delay as possible. In my case, it was either have a D&C or wait at home for the miscarriage to happen and then probably still have to get a D&C.

A few months after that, I became pregnant with my lovely daughter, who is now 4 years old.

I haven't been a patient in any hospital in my entire life (except when I was born), so I cannot speak from personal experience. I also don't know which hospitals are particularly recommendable for this type of procedure.
The hospital Dritter Orden is a very popular hospital for giving birth as far as I know (I was actually born there) but I don't know how they do with this type of procedure. I think your wife would probably be in good hands at the university hospitals (any with the word Universität in their name) because they generally offer excellent standards of health care and as far as I know the Munich hospital is one of the highest-ranked in Germany.

You might also want to find out which ones could give you an appointment at such short notice by calling around and then make your pick (that will likely narrow down the options from the list).

Maybe others could give better feedback on the individual hospitals that are an option for you (anyone?):

Yeah, they don't have to worry about it because when a woman miscarries and has to have a curettage, that is not an abortion (for obvious reasons I will hopefully not have to spell out for you).

By the way, I had the D&C as an outpatient procedure, under general anesthesia. I think usually a clinic would like to keep you overnight (more money for them), but Dr. Krauss convinced them to let me go home after an hour or two instead. I felt I would be more comfortable at home, and in the US such a procedure is almost always outpatient, even performed under local anesthesia, so I thought it would be unnecessary to stay overnight.

Dr. Krauss has a lot of pull at the Paracelsus Klinik (his parents also practiced there), so I don't know how hard it would be to convince a clinic to let you go early, if that's what you want, but it's worth discussing.

HI all,

Thank you very much for the info and the supporting words. I hope it will also be easy and we recover from this less soon. I will call the different places and try to get an appointment.

Jackal, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. From personal experience and from that of those around me, I know how awful that is. I hope you're able to get the medical side of things sorted out quickly so that you and your wife both can work on the rest (mind/soul) parts of the healing process.

Hi Jackal,

First of all, I'm really sorry for your loss. I experienced the same thing - no heartbeat after 9 weeks. It was either wait for the miscarriage to happen itself or get it over with with a D&C. And then, the same experience - they wanted me to wait until the following week. As it was, we found out on Monday and had to wait until Thursday.

So, we went here:

Rotkreuzklinikum Frauenklinik München gGmbH
Taxisstraße 3, 80637 München

I stayed the whole day, had the procedure around 11 am and left at around 6 pm. And no complications and the nurses and doctors were all wonderful. Which is important because the whole thing is hard enough as it is without having unsympathetic nurses and doctors too.
