Chosing housing convenient for BIS/MIS - Munich

We are planning on moving to Munich from Manhattan this summer. My husband will be commuting to Nuremberg on the ICE (and perhaps spending 2 nights per week in Nuremberg). We have 2 boys -- now 6th grade and 2nd grade. I think that the 6th grader at least will need to be in an international school because he only has conversational German. I'm leaning towards BIS because of its size -- the boys go to a very small (200 kids) private school in NYC. Are there any advantages of MIS over BIS? What are recommended areas to live? I don't have a driver's license (yet) and I have heard it is not easy for kids to take the school buses back from school if they participate in afterschool sports. Thanks all.
