A Quick into regarding how my building entrance is designed.

We live in a 3 floors building, in-front of the building there is grass then 3 small lanes, 1 for walking pedestrians, 1 for Bikes, and the 3rd for Parking and then the Street itself.

Normally, all (really all) people stop the car in-front of the building (half on the grass and half on the walking lane) in case they are caring anything to left it up or down and then drive - usually takes about 3 mins.

Today around 10:30 am, my wife stopped in-front of the building (same way as described above), she called me and she was very scared that a man about 45 year old is standing behind the car and staring at her - and seams not normal.

I went down caring my little Daughter 1 year old - as my wife was picking me up, he shouted at me, I told him I can't speak German and asked if he can speak English, he answered that "we are in Germany, we are no in USA, UK or anywhere else, you have to speak German - Crazy" ... he also added that this is Walking lane and we are not allowed to park here - I tried to explain to him that I just had a back issues as well as an old Problem with my Pelvis (I can proof it)- that's why when carrying anything I prefer to park here - in addition - almost all neighbors are doing the same thing - he didn't listen and shouted "if I call the police you will pay" .. I told him ok -- call the police -- if you don't have a phone you can use my Mobile - again he shouted "If I call the police you will pay!" - I told him here is the car you can make a photo and call the police - he's then Gone.

I wonder why some people wont just explain things in friendly way - or even normal way.

Anyway, is it his right doing that? and is it wrong when I stop the car in this place to loading or unloading?

Can I report the case to the police? - or is it non-sense as I don't know anything (name, address, ..etc) about him?

Any advices how to usually face such people? - sorry I'm relatively new in Germany.

Yep. Quite normal for here. Very many people here live very highly strung lives.
jeremy
second that. Being barked at is quite normal. You really have adapted when you learn to switch off from it.

just keep calm in such situations. just a grumpy interfering man, we had one outside our place the other day when we parked in the (derelict) communal driveway to quickly unload some heavy items.
he left in the end, he obviously knew he was in the wrong, asking him to call the police was a good idea, as if the police would come out for something like that, they're busy enough at the moment as it is.
look at the funny side of it, in fact we just laughed at our shouting guy and he stomped off.

Just do what I do, kindly tell him to kiss your ass

Great, that I'm not a lone - honestly all what I heard so far was about very old people who has nothing to do in live, and this is the only way to keep busy! .. but he was about 45 - new for me.

I wonder if those people will ever care about their (or the German) image externally! ...

I got yelled at on the Ubahn for being an 'American Macho Asshole', even though a) I am Canadian, and b) I was just having a casual convo in english with someone. So much hate and anger in his speach I was quite shocked and really REALLY close to punching him. But then the headlines would read 'Immigrant attacks Pensioner in Ubahn!'

Its the only time I have had a rough time with this, but since learning and speaking fluent german I have had a WAY easier time. I get treated way better, especially from cabbies.

I DID however have a bad time with my KVR agent, when I asked him politely if he could explain in english when I first moved to germany, he told me that if you want that , go back home. What a dick. How can someone like that work in a place that caters to immigrants.

Thank you for proving a little theory I have: That whenever Canadians are being obnoxious (or even if not, as it sounds in your case) Americans get blamed for it. The only time people know you are Canadian is when you wear your little "don't blame me" flag patches on your backpacks and hike around on your best behavior.

That's why, whenever I know I'm up for a night of heavy drinking and general obnoxiousness... I don my big Maple Leaf flag t-shirt. I gotta even things out.

Implying you dont mind the cops being called was truly a good call. These loud mouth jerks just know that the cops (if they come) will give them an ear full for wasting precious time.

Top priority for Germans is not to mess with the law.

yep learning the local lingo definitely gives you a good chance with the locals, especially in arguments.

So Canada not part of the American continent anymore then?

As for being shouted at - well if you break the law (or even just bend it bit) then there will always be someone who wants to show how more law abiding they are than you.

Smile politely and just ignore it. Well until the police turn up outside your door and drag you away in chains that is

on the other hand - it strikes me as a bit odd to drive over a parking lane, a bike lane and a pedestrian bit to park on the grass in order to just pick someone up

Mapleleafdude you are 100% right, this is the Germans top priority - you know I can talk very good German but its not good enough to go throw this discussion with a sick man talking with him mother tongue and me talking with my 3rd Language! ... using English makes it fair for everyone.

Yeah I was not being obnoxious at all, he however was all tanked up. It was just a stereotype that he had in his mind. Although being called Macho in my case could be taken as a complement, haha.

The wife taught me some bad words and insults in Russian. Seems to work. Seriously dont worry about it but maybe make sure you are not doing something that will tick people off. Thats just about anything. You sure its OK to park there? "Alles in Ordnung"!
