I arrived here on Friday (September 25th) - and I need to register my residence, both for the bank to open me an account, and of course for the law... does anyone have the correct address, it was not on the TTown wiki page for this topic ([url]http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Residence_registration) and Google turned up an idea that it was at the Rathaus, and also here ( [url]http://dibis.dufa.de/dibi0031.asp /
and the Stadplan ) ... does anyone know which is the correct place to go?

Hamburg has several. The one to pick depends on where you live.

A good place to start is the
Welcome Center
ask where the center is for your district.
Or go to the one on Steinstrasse, across from the Saturn.
Have your passport and rental contract, or the name of the person registered at your address.

Tor, you're a superstar... I don't have a rental contract - I'm here at the grace of my employer.. I will take my contract of employment, and hopefully they can call Xing and verify that I am in fact supposed to be here!

then I assume you are sharing or living in someone's flat?
you just need the name of the person registered at that address.

The business owns the apartment, there is an intern staying here too - but it's a business facility... the intern leaves in a couple of days and hasn't been here long enough to know how the registration must work... (he's a Swede has been here 1 month on contract work)

Tor is quite right. You need to go to the Einwohnermeldeamt of your so-called "Bezirksamt" (the administrative office of your district). Hamburg is divided into several districts. Just choose the one you live in: http://www.hamburg.de/einwohnermeldeamt-hamburg/.
Edit: Sorry, I did not see that Frank has already posted a good link.

Hi, thanks for the replies everyone, I was able to register at the Welcome Centre, they also gave me a Tax Card and as an EU citizen, I got something else - the same as permission to travel freely as a citizen of the EU, apparently I'll need that with my passport when traveling in and out of Germany in the future.
Very useful time at the welcome centre, can't complain at all! Here's a list of other services offered by them [url]http://www.welcome.hamburg.de/services-welcome-center/1621190/services.html
Thanks everyone for the advice
